Which software is best for managing digital photos? I know everyone uses Photoshop to edit photos. I don't edit photos much, but I'm trying to find out what is best for managing albums. I have used Kodak (which came with my digital camera) and now I have new computer that comes with Windows Media Center and HP Image Zone. I don't consider any of these good. The specific task I want be able to do is to select a group of pictures out of an album, and store them in reduced resolution for emailing. I was able to do this with Kodak, but only one at a time and it was a 5 click process for each as I had to manually rename them and specify a lower resolution. Does Photoshop also help manage albums or is there some other software I should use?

I've heard a lot of good things of Picassa ... but I didn't get the hang of it.

Picassa is good once you learn how it works, and it is free. Another good one is iView.

I think you are looking for batch-processing. Photoshop does have this feature. There is a cheaper version of it called Photoshop Elements. I don't know off hand if it has batch-processing. It should be about $100. As for editing, I use The Gimp. It's a free program that is very similar to PS. If you can use PS, you can use Gimp. It's not quite as powerful, but it will do more than most people need.

Thanks for the feedback -- this helps a lot. I think I will give Picasa a try first. Will report the results after I try it.

I've finally loaded Picassa and it's really great and easy to use. Thanks for the recommendation -- it does everything I was looking for and more.
