IMHO.....i think it is too difficult to call which is the best sounding ferrari with a Tubi - the 348 or the 355 (this is closely followed by the 360).

Having heard a number of exhaust systems, If i was in your shoes i would go with the Tubi de-cat without a second thought........speak to Karl at Verdis he should be able to help you.

Al, Do not by the Fuchs exhaust on my say so. Remeber I heard the Fuchs exhaust 3 years ago and at the time it was my first ferrari, so anything sounded good.

You need to here a sound card for the Fuschs exhaust. I am not sure about build quality either. Its seems TUBI is built very good.

I just don't want to buy a Tubi and then find that there is a real belter available for the same money or less that I didn't know about.

I looked on the HG parts site that SteveF mentioned... those Capristos look really REEALLY nice... but who the hell sees them?

The car is in now having it's service and belts done - I'd ideally like to get the exhaust done while it's in. Once I have it up in Yorkshire there's no way i would drive a 500 mile round trip all the way back down to say Verdis, just to have the exhaust put on.

Anyone know somewhere near Manchester, York or Leeds that know their Ferrari exhausts?

The easiest thing in the world would be just to get a full Tubi, test pipes, the works and get Bob Houghton to fit it before I pick it up... anyone got a sound clip of a 348 with full Tubi?

Decisions decisions... Justin... just don't say to Vicki next time you see her, "so what do you reckon to the new exhaust then?" :D

    Al,

There's a Ferrari specialist in Eccles that'll fit it for you - R&D Automotive. Have you spoken to Steve F about importing one from Germany ?

I ended up doing the drive down to Verdi's (just off the M40) and back - what a drive back ..... had some whipper snapper trying to keep up with me in his V tec whatever. It's a few hours job (cool down etc) but there is loads to see and talk about at Verdi's.

Personally I'd wait a couple of weeks - get use to original exhaust (std Ferrari's still sound great) and then slap on the Tubi (or vhatever you decide) - you won't stop grinning.

Give me a shout when you get it and we'll have to meet in Manchester for a quick pint somewhere (we'll Simon and his Lambo down too). Are you going to be using it for work ?

    Will do!

Rick - no, I won't be using it for work. Just once a month would stick nearly 2000 miles on it in a year. (now if people weren't so bothered about the mileages then...)

Ho hum, here comes the 9am firewall :(

The Capristo looks great. Notice the 4 exit pipes leading to exhaust tips. Tubi have 2 , leading to 4 exit pipes.

The Capristo also offers the option of the Carbon tips. I think they're the only company that do that?

    Seb,
does your recommendation extend to "newer" 8 cylinder models , like 348, or the classic 12's? Al is after that elusive "F1"- ness.

    Tony,

Yes, very definately, stevef's post is right, they have 3 standard 'noise' levels, Standard, Sports and Super Sports, but talk to them directly and they'll tweak the sound and volume to suit an individual.

I heard a 355F1 with a Super Sports System on it and it was tha closest thing I have ever heard to the SCREAM of a real F1 car.

I have the Super Sports System fitted to my car and it's an absolute joy.

    Best Regards,

    Seb

I've got my Tubi for the Murcielago on the Living room floor at the moment. It looks so fantastic I might buy another to mount on the wall as an exotic piece of modern art. I can't see how the Tubi can be beaten whatever the model of car,not the cheapest but that sound..

??? They have them listed fairly prominently in their stock list, pics, prices, the works.

The Quicksilver Supersport system for a 348 costs £862 + VAT supply only. They will also send you a sound file. Purely subjectively, it's not as crisp a sound as I would like and still sounds a little muffled to my mind (though it could be the recording).

I went to R&D Automotive at lunch time. Christ they have some cars in that workshop! Also gave me some totally unbiased advice. In his opinion, no probs taking cats out on a '93 348 as long as you keep the second heat sensor connected to the system. Just cats off with no exhaust upgrade would not make that much difference to the sound, and most of the aftermarket exhaust systems will suffer from 'boom' at the 2-3k revs mark. Tubi and Challenge systems are far less prone to this. He reckoned the F. Challenge system was slightly cheaper than the Tubi, but for what I am after, the Tubi may be that little bit louder and little bit higher in pitch.

    Right - decision made!

Much as I hate to admit it, after much discussion, Mpeg files, WAv files and the like, I am going for a de-catted Tubi system. I know I know, i hate to follow the crowd too, but it does seem to stamd out head and shoulders above the rest, so...

I have been quoted £1600 inc VAT plus fitting from a respected northern specialist. Anyone do any better or is this the going rate?

i thought I had a three week old one available for £900 plus the test pipes, but it turns out it is for a Berlinetta and the fittings are different to a Spider :( Ho hum... patience, virtue and all that :)

I would say that was a fairly good price plus you don't need to go down South.
