Curious to know which two would you keep from each category and why ? Super cars : 1/ CGT 2/ F40 3/ Ford GT 4/ F50 Modern F1 : 1/ 360 CS 2/ LFA 3/ 599 GTO 4/ 16M V12 manuals : 1/ 599 2/ 550 3/ 512M 4/ 512TR
Supercars: F40 and the Carrera GT. F40 - really cool and iconic Ferrari. Just loog at the film I posted CGT because it is possible to drive top less and since I have driven neither the F50 nor the CGT I have to rely on others and believe it is a "better" car than the F50 ModernF1 16M and 599GTO. THe 16M is a more modern car than the 360CS and it looks better. But I would have a Scuderia over the 16M. Even if the LFA may be a better car than the 599GTO I would still have the GTO because it looks better and it is a Ferrari! V12 Manuals 599 and 550. Not a great fan of the Testarossa derivatives....
Super cars : 1/ CGT......................no, ugly 2/ F40 ......................yes 3/ Ford GT ................yes 4/ F50 ......................no, ugly Modern F1 : 1/ 360 CS ................no, F1 2/ LFA .....................no, F1 3/ 599 GTO ..............no, F1 4/ 16M .....................no, F1 V12 manuals : 1/ 599 .....................no 2/ 550 .....................maybe 3/ 512M ...................yes 4/ 512TR..................maybe
"Super cars": Definitely the F40, probably F50. The others are great cars, but the Ford is a bit of a knockoff of a real classic, and the CGT was never a good looking car, IMHO. (I would take a GTS RS over it.) F40 is the definitive classic-modern Ferrari. It ticks all the right boxes. But any of these would be a thrill to own. Modern F1: The 16M and probably the LFA. One is a relatively raw, open Ferrari, the other is probably destined to be extremely collectible, because I doubt Lexus will go there again. It's their Porsche 959, in a way. Not a fan of the "GTO" treatment on the 599. V12 manuals: 512TR because I like the looks and it's a big step up from the TR; 512M only because it's rare and probably a good investment. Money aside, would probably take the 550 second -- one of the few post-F40 Ferraris that looks good.
Based on value, potential appreciation, and personal preference Super cars: F40, F50 Modern F1: 360 CS 599 GTO V12 manuals: 599, 550
Really tough decisions, lucky you Super cars: F40 and Ford GT. F50 is a really really close 3rd because even though it's not as pretty, I've always liked it and it has a V12. Sorry but CGT does nothing for me. Modern F1: LFA (pretty unique) and 16M. 360 Scuderia is a close 3rd but the 16M offers that race car feel except with the top down. 599 is a nice car but not beautiful enough. If you have the means, might as well get the F12 TDF. V12 manuals: 550 and 512TR.
Super cars: F40, no question. Ford GT as I'd already have a Ferrari. CGT never did anything for me either. Modern F1: 360CS. Would have chosen the 458 (or perhaps a 488) if on the list. V12: It would be the 512TR. The 512M is silly looking, and I don't really have a desire for a front-engine Ferrari. One V12 is more than enough.
Super cars : F40, F50 - no brainer, they are simply the classics. I would say F40 is the icon of Ferrari that till today no other Ferrari is as unique and beautiful in the past 30 years Modern F1 : 16M, because it looks like 430 V12 manuals : 550, 512TR
F40 because it is one of my favorites F50 12 cylinder not a big fan of its looks but i imagine it would look a lot better once it is sitting in my garage 599 gto....I think it is the best 599 by far.. 16m .. convertible scud what not to like 512M.. best of the testarossas 550 because they are last of the analogs
My picks: Super cars : F40 Modern F1 : NONE V12 manuals : 512TR Instead of a max of 6, I only chose 2. I am a cheap date.
Interesting thread. And difficult. Super cars : 1/ CGT - Would have to be a yes...I think? Variety reasons. LOVE the F50 but something else than a Ferrari is nice occasionally...and damn what a car the CGT is. 2/ F40 - Yes. No doubt. 3/ Ford GT - Cool car but I'm not very interested compared to the others 4/ F50 - Probably the better car than the F40, and actually want it more...but for same reason as the CGT, this decision is made purely on the fact of variety. Nothing will compare to the F40 coming on boost. Though I flip flop between the CGT and F50. F50 needs a couple of minor things done for me to be perfect (J wolff exhaust and speedline wheels), and would probably pick it over a CGT. Flip flop! Modern F1 : 1/ 360 CS - Yes, no doubt. 2/ LFA - An easy no. Never fell in love with it. Sounds cool, probably drives fantastic but I have zero emotion for it. 3/ 599 GTO - 100% yes. Without a doubt. 4/ 16M - Wonderful car but loses to the CS. V12 manuals : 1/ 599 - no, because if I have a GTO what's the point in a (manual) GTB? 2/ 550 - without a doubt yes. One of my favourites. 3/ 512M - No. 512 optimized on all fronts, except it was penciled by Ray Charles. 4/ 512TR - Yes. In cocaine white. ---- To conclusion, it was an easy choice on most fronts except for the CGT and F50. I think I could only choose between those 2 after driving/owning them (and would almost certainly come to the conclusion I'd sell neither and you can all **** off pushing me to do so ).
At first I thought it was two total from the list. Two from each category is plane nuts. I don't know if I would ever buy a car that I wasn't able to drive at least once a week or at the very least twice a month. Money aside though and following the theme, F40 & F50 - easy, CS & GTO - admittedly the harder choice of the 3 categories until I remembered the top on the F50 comes off, then the 550 and the 512tr - the 550 is sexy and the 512 is the first pony I've ever driven.
I agree with that. It's the one on the OP's list that best represents the old school, pre-computer era. I would take the 458 Speciale over any 360/F430/599 variant. New software beats old software.
F50, CGT. Manual analogue supercar goodness LFA, 599 GTO - Tech'd up old school layouts (FR, big engine, paddles) 512M, 550 - The best of the old world tech (although a 575 6 speed would be ideal in this case)
Super cars : 1/ CGT - NO 2/ F40 - yes, its the most collectable and visceral car here. 3/ Ford GT - Yes - historically a collectable car - and pretty 4/ F50 - not much of a fan. Modern F1 : NONE are that good here. 1/ 360 CS 2/ LFA - novelty so would hold on to it for value reasons 3/ 599 GTO - I like the 599, but hate that they ruined the GTO monicker with this car. 4/ 16M V12 manuals : 1/ 599 Great car so it will grow in esteem over time 2/ 550 3/ 512M 4/ 512TR - same applies - great car, and looks are softened a bit... still a mark of History Sadly none of these cars except for F-40 and F-50 are really that exciting... fast yes, but exciting not much. the TR and 550 and 599 are great cars, and fun to drive... For me the F-40 is WAY more exciting than all of them put together. Not only does it have 80's sex appeal, but it can still scare the crap out of you today.
Super cars : 1/ CGT - keep 2/ F40 - keep 3/ Ford GT - keep 4/ F50 - keep Modern F1 : 1/ 360 CS - keep 2/ LFA - keep 3/ 599 GTO - keep 4/ 16M - keep V12 manuals : 1/ 599 - keep 2/ 550 - keep 3/ 512M - keep 4/ 512TR - keep Ok - I kid, I kid. Probably something like this: F50 and CGT. Love the F40, but prefer the relative "amenities" of the F50. Drove a Ford GT, and while awesome, just seemed to big for me. 16M and 599 GTO - prefer timing chains to belts (although 360CS is prettier to me). LFA???? UGH. 550 and 512TR - I already have a 599 GTO, and the 512M is butt ugly. If I had a choice of 2, F50 and CGT.
Z(ach), I have one of each of those categories (although not a true CS) and none of it was by accident. 1) F40 - I have had it for years and, in my opinion, it's the best car ever made. I have driven many of the other sueprcars and the F40 is by far and away the best one to me. When I people ask me about it, I tell them that it's the car God would have made. 2) 360 CS - I have a manual 360 converted just about entirely to a CS. It has full CS body parts, seats, carbon GT mirrors, Brembo big brake kit, Challenge ECUs, a Moton tuned suspension, and full carbon interior and engine bay. I drove several CSs and I liked a lot about them but I really prefer a manual. So I started with a manual 360 that was 3/4 of the way there already thanks to a previous owner with some very good connections, and made my own manual CS. Of the cars you mentioned, it's the most enjoyable of them to just get in and drive. I do like the Scud a lot but that's not on your list. 3) 550 Maranello - It's the best of the modern V12 production cars. They made it all wrong. It came out to replace the 512TR and M. It had to replace a big and heavy but sporty mid engined car albeit with no racing pedigree. They made it strong, they made it torquey, and while it's not a super tossable car, they made it handle extremely well. The problem was that they made it all wrong for the marketplace; it attracted a much different buyer than they imagined because it cost twice as much as its corresponding V-8 cars. So they followed it up with the much more softer, gentler, and GT oriented 575M. There is a reason that HTGC package is so sought after. The 550 remains a super performance car and I, for one, truly appreciate how "wrong" they made it.
