Which way are the fans supposed to blow.

I have been reading up on various threads regarding 355 cooling systems in general and specifically regarding the radiator fans.

Which way are the radiator fans supposed to move the air?

Drawing air into the engine bay from the front of the car towards the back (the same way air would flow through the door vents when underway)?

Or

Blowing from the back of the car to the front (so if you open the driver door when the car is stopped and the fan is running you can feel it blowing out the intake vent)

I ask because I have seen threads that describe the former which also makes sense since that's the way the air flows naturally when moving so they would complement each other.

I have personally experienced the latter feeling the air flow coming out of the vent from inside the engine bay towards the front of the car. This also coincides with the threads relating to hot engine bay air forced into the air intake system when the fans kick on creating engine idling issues.

So which is it?
