I am about to change the fuel filter on my 73 Dino. It is a UFI and it has a spring on one end and a little semi-circular handle on the other. So the question is which way is up? I assume the spring sits in the bowl and points downwards.

Simon, don't know about the spring location, my guess, is most likely at the bottom.
I am also guessing that if the fuel tanks are not empty, you are going to get a sea of gasoline pouring if you take the filter out, as gravity is there. Now is also a nice moment to look at the filters at the fuel pump(s) and the glass bowl filter if you have one. Inspect the junction rubber hose(s) between the two tanks and the junction pipe.
Unless certain of age, change them.

    Regards, Alberto

The spring points downwards and pushes the filter up against the top sealing ring.

    Thanks guys,

The pump, mounting bushes, fuel pipes are all new. When I took the filter off the spring was pointing up and I just wanted to check that it had been been fitted upside down by the PO's mechanic.
