Let's pretend Ferrari offered you one of its production automobiles. Here are the stipulations though: They are loaning it to you for your lifetime. You can't sell it, you can't take a lien against it. They are covering ALL maintenance and repairs for the entire car's lifetime and will put a team of mechanics at your disposal to fix your car on a moment's notice. People always say, I would rather X Ferrari, but couldn't deal with the maintenance...etc so I looked at Y instead. So let's see what car wins this poll...
I intentionally kept all the limited production cars off the list. This is about standard production models. Part of this stems from my curiosity regarding the engine out models and the boards preference regarding modern vs. "classic". For example, among my personal favorite Ferraris are the Testarossa and the 355--yet they are often dismissed by owners and potential owners as being too expensive to own or operate. I am wondering if you take that off the table, take depreciation off the table, etc, what Ferraris do we really want. My vote is Testarossa...
I have always wanted a Boxer but the performance of the modern cars along with the best styling in years swayed me to the 458.
I voted for the FF as it is the only car on the list that could be used everyday in any situation. Rain, snow, or shine. And you can take more than one person along.
Joe - awesome take on the question of F-car ownership! You know I love the TR but if someone were on call to keep her running AND cover expenses I would be in a 355. Besides, that would be the sponsored car, I could keep my TR on my dime. CC
I choose the 550/575. It's just the classic modern Ferrari to me. I know the 599 is faster, but the shape doesn't do it for me like a 550/575. I'll take a three pedal please in grigio titanium. Ferrari's paying for tires too right? Curious why the Cali didn't make the poll?
If I had to pay for maintenance I'd probably take something new from the list, but since maintenance is free I'm going to make the most of it. So I had only three choices: Boxer, Testarossa and 355. The 355's engine scream is to die for but I don't like the 355 interior (hasn't aged well), so between the Testarossa and the Boxer. Tough choice. I chose the Boxer, but it could be a coin flip. In real life I chose the 308 because I didn't want the maintenance costs of the other cars on the list. Hey, I'm one of those guys!
308/328. If it's a lifetime car, I think those will live on as classics. The others... not so sure. Boxer would be 2nd choice.
I'd take an FF, as it's currently worth the most, then sell it and buy a few vehicles that appeal to me more (one of them being a 355).
Hey, can I change my vote? I like the "off the menu" choice and the 250 GT SWB is the car that got me hooked on Ferraris.
512TR!!! Given the set-up, I would make it my daily driver. Will they cover rock-chips and door dings??? Dave
Damn it! I knew I was forgetting something. I apologize to the Cali owners and fans. That was an oversight on my part. If the Cali would be your choice, please post it. Others---no cheating. You can't pick cars earlier than the Boxer or 308GT4! ...and yes tires are included and they will respray your front end for rock chips at your leisure.
Going by the list it will be quite easy to pick the winner... but it will be interesting to see what comes 2nd
456 or FF. I'm going to drive it every day and that's a car I can live with for the rest of my life even if I have a lousy commute. For DD I'll be going auto as well. I hope they also pay for fuel. I'm just a four seat guy. Love my Mondial but I don't want to have my back seat passengers overheat from weak A/C.
I voted 458, but the TR / 512TR was a close second in my mind. The modern conveniences are just too much to pass up if I am driving it for the rest of my life. BT
Ok guys, just remember this doesnt have to be your only car. I would keep my DD but own a testarossa because that's the car I like the most even if it is not the most practical. Same goes for a 355--- a very close second
