It's getting pretty hard on me to try and decide which car i want for in 2008..I dont want you guy's to get on me. I'm "just asking" so I can get some opinions. I love the F355 to the fullest, its affordable for me and not too new(it'll be my 1st exotic)..I would like a 95.also heard the insurance is not too bad!...Porsche Carrera is my 2nd choice but the non turbo one from 00-02..and lastly a 04 Gallardo..that one is tricky because I would put money down on that and pay monthly which I really dont want to do because I rather pay the whole car off..But im kind of young and not my price range..Basically I want to spend 60-90k on a car thats best for me all around..any opinions?? Thanks

Given your budget, you can get a great 355 berlinetta for $65-75K and have enough money left over to meet the major service that could be pricey. The Ferrari will be more exotic than the Porsche by a factor of 10 and is worth the premium IMO. It sounds out of the world too.

Forget the Gallardo - it is out of your budget and the insurance will be pretty expensive considering your age.

I'm not enitrely familiar with car prices in the US, but the Porsche is solid/pracical enough to be used daily. Maybe if you were to sell your other car, you could stretch to a 996 turbo, which IMHO would make the Porsche a contender. Just something to think about.

Though if it's exotic you want with all the indefinable spine tingling delights that go with that, then it's a 355 you ought to buy.

Whenever someone posts that it's between the Ferrari or the Porsche, I don't think they really 'get' the whole Ferrari/exotic thing.

    So get a Porsche.

All 3 are great car's to me,which is why it's hard..None of them would be "daily" driven of course.

So true...no one had to opine me to get an F355!

Its only hard because you "want" all three and can justify only one.....

Why wouldn't you daily-drive a Porsche 911? They're made for that - Ferry Porsche insisted on it. Also, when you get bored of them, it's one of the easiest cars to sell (I sold mine the same week I listed it, at retail.)

Again, if you're on the fence between a Ferrari and any other car, and you've drive both a 911 and an F355 and think they're comparable, get the 911. You just have to want a Ferrari badly - very badly - before you'll be able to "rationalize" an $8K service bill. When people ask me about my car, the last thing I even suggest is that they should buy one.

I agree with comment above about the Gallardo. Nice exotic, but not yet available in your price range.

More wisdom from Bullfighter (above)...... one has to want an f-car no matter what!!! Only the check writer could/should make that justification... ;)

I have a 348 SS and a 996 Turbo, so let me weigh in on this one. For your exotic car, you have to ask yourself what u really want and what is your tolerance for maintenance and, in my region, who u want to be associated with and hang around in club events.

Driving - you cannot beat the Ferrari for the most viseral driving experience. It gets in your blood and once you have the itch, nothing can scratch it like a Ferrari. The Porsche is a complete driving machine, but not a sports car. It is designed as a GT car and so it can easily fill in as a daily driver. You can mod it a bit to get back some of the sports car that was designed out of the 996, but its togh to get to the Ferrari experience without huge $$. Figure about $10K to do that on top of the $65K cost for a good 2001 996 turbo. Believe me, if your gonna go Porsche, don't mess with the lesser models. The Porsche is hands down faster and can be made even faster with little investment - you can see 550 Hp and 0-60 in under 4 secs. for about $10K. At the end of the day you have a hot Porsche though.

Maintenance - hah, a laughable comparison! Figure the Ferrari to run you some serious coin over your ownership due to the 5-year $4500 major and misc. other costs. Annuals are around $1K. Parts and stuff just cost more in these cars. The Porsche is downright cheap by comparison except under 2 conditions - upgrading and if you break something. They are pretty bullet proof so u prolly won't break anything unless u have an accident. You can ride 'em hard and put 'em away sopping wet and they will do it time after time with no issues. The Porsche annual is $650 and the major is, well $1100 or so.

Image - In SoCal there are Porsches everywhere so even a Turbo doesn't buy u much street cred until u blast by some joker in a slammed Honda who's trying to stuff u on the freeway. However, any Ferrari, any one, I tell you, buys u instant celebrity and attention. For the most part, this attention is very positive and cool so long as your not an ****** about being a Ferrari owner. Wave to everyone and smile. Be courteous. Afterall, Ferrari sheet metal is really $$ to fix. :D

Social - this is so arbitrary and depends where u live and which clubs are more active in your region. In SoCal, we have 2 Ferrari Cubs and people are generally pretty nice. However, there are a lot of older pretentious people in them which can be a turn off until u meet the right clique. The F clubs also like to do a lot of stuff with their cars, but mostly show them off. The P club is ellusive and it's hard finding a sympathetic group. P owners are generally not real car people like Ferrari owners. Still, there is a decent core of P ppl if u can find them and tag along on their outings. P people are more into racing their cars too than about any other club. So if u like to do the social drives and stuff u have to look harder.

Now, if u r married, this is a consideration. You spouse will really like the Ferrari social element, not at first, but eventually. She will have the chance to rub shoulders with some pretty affluent ppl and talk to them about all sorts of "Falconcrest" and "Dynasty" stuff (but for real). F people are generally older too, so if ur in your 50-60's you'll fit in better.

Just some things to think about.

Wow..thanks Vince..great feedback! I was reading around and it seem's the 355 is more to go towards. I'm sorry to say how i like both cars(leavin the gallardo out now) and you guys are sayin if it's not in me to really "want" a ferrari then go for the Porsche. That's not it at all..Im sure there are some guy's out there that had/have a tough time deciding on what to purchase first. Like vince you say you have a ferrari and porsche. Everyone is different and also thinks differently. I'll be 25 when it comes time to purchase(save on insurance). Not married nor do I have a girlfriend,so wont be gettin a wife anytime soon..No kids..Live on my own..So basically it's time for a new toy in my life. I know there is a difference in comparision with the Maint. between a Porsche and Ferrari but yes im aware of that and plan to keep up all the services, etc. I live out in NJ so I have to say Ferrari's are moreeeee rare than a Porsche, especially an F355! Thanks for all the feedback guy's. =)
