the Carrera GT's power (open top and manual shift) just leaves me jaded when I drive the CS again. Don't know if anyone is interested, but it's 4 months old (1200 miles), is titanium with tan leather (no stripe), and located in S. Cal. I just remember when i was looking for one, everyone here seemed really pissed at the guy when they thought he didn't offer it here first. I paid $206 (+$1k clear bra) and that's what I'm willing to sell it for. There are some pictures here (pages 9 - 11):

If you would be so kind, tell us more about the similarities and differences between the two- acceleration, handling, day-to-day driveability.
    Many thanks,

Oddly enough, I like most everything about the Stradale better except for power, open top, and manual shift. The Stradale feels smaller even though they are both exactly 74" from the outside of rear tire to outside of rear tire, and the Stradale is less than 6" shorter. But it feels very much smaller and more go kart like. The feel and communication seems better on the Stradale including the carbon brakes which I like better than the CGT's ceramics. The sound from the Stradale is also better IMO as are the looks. And, the Stradale is much more comfortable as the cabin is much more open. Despite the cars being the same width, there is a lot more room in the Stradale. The side sills and doors are fat on the CGT and together with the center console a lot of interior space is taken up. The Stradale is simply the best drive I've ever experienced. The CGT does have a ton more lateral grip though for sure and the 265/335 tires probably have a lot to do with it. As far as day to day drivability goes, the Stradale is probably a bit better because of the ride height difference though they are both similarly useful. I have to back the CGT into my garage (where it clears the front of the car by appx 1/4") because it would bottom out if driven in front first.

But the CGT is a supercar! Equal in price to two Stradales.

If the prices on them dip in a few years I would love to have one. They are a little long for me. I hate too much real estate around me.

I am sure you have gotten ther hang of the clutch on the CGT. Is it difficult in dicey traffic situations?

I stalled the car once on each of the first three or so days I drove it (primarily up my driveway from the garage), and then skipped a few days of stalling, and then maybe once more, and now not at all. Yesterday, I got stuck in bumper to bumper highway traffic in it and also experience many dead stop incline take offs with cars right behind me on a near daily basis. I'm confident with it now to the point that I "think" about it only in isolated conditions (ie: inclines with cars behind me). Other than that, it's fairly subconcious now.

i predict that selling the CS is something you will end up regretting.

sure, i miss the freight-train torque of my 550 in comparison to the CS, but it's just one single factor, and as you point out, man, the other factors on the CS are pretty damn sweet.

    g/l with the noodling.

Interesting that you rate the "drive" of the CS better than the CGT. I never would have guessed. I would have thought them similar with the edge going to the CGT because of the carbinfiber body, and the extreme engineering pains Porsche used to make the car as close to a race-car as possible.
If I may ask, do you plan to purchase a 430? It seems to address the power shortcomings of the 360 engine, while enhancing the drive even more than the CS.
    Many thanks for the insights,

Aren't you the one who was thinking of cancelling the CGT because of the tricky clutch?

If so, it's interesting that you now cite the CGT's manual tranny as a reason for preferring the CGT over the CS!

(fwiw, I would keep the CGT too and its manual gearbox would be high on my list of reasons to prefer it)

Good to hear someone who learned that clutch. I would hate to see such a superb machine terminally devalued because of such a small factor.

Not unless it's a CS. I'd thought about maybe getting a 430 Spider but now that I have the CGT, I can't imagine doing that. The CGT is a much much better drive than the 360 non-CS. The CS is in a world of it's own and the regular 360 bores me (though moving the torque up to 343 ala the 430 would go a long way toward fixing that). The race car feel and experience of the CS is not going to be reproduced in the 430 unless it too is a CS model. Heck, a large amount of the CS is going into the 430 - except for the race car experience that comes from removing sound deadening material, carpet, etc.

FWIW, the CS may have felt more sluggish than before because I had a friend in the passenger seat that was appx 200 lbs. It's amazing how much diff it makes on a car with so little torque. I'll try it again soon by myself again.

Yep, that was me. I drove a friends CGT and hated the clutch. Interestingly the car had 4k miles on it when I drove it and the second owner after him (shortly after I drove it) had to replace the clutch (Porsche paid). So, it could very well have been crapped out when I drove it too.

Ben, like you I prefer a convertible but I must tell you I enjoy riding in your Stradale a hell of a lot more than riding in the CGT. The entire Stradale experience..its stunning looks, orgasmic sound and performance is unmatched by any car. I will acknowledge the CGT does outperform the CS but not so much more to matter to 99% of the drivers.

Regarding the 430, you and I will find out how you feel about it hopefully in a couple of months.

That's cause I scare ya more in the CGT :) It takes a week in the Stradale to build the kinds of speed the CGT achieves in 10 seconds (in any gear from any speed) - darn near 30%! faster to 100 and the margin just swells the larger the speed (125 comes in about 15 seconds in the CS vs. 10 in the CGT!). The difference between the CS and the CGT in terms of acceleration is kinda like the diff between a Ford Mustang GT and a 360 which I think most people would be able to feel. The CS is very fast, but the CGT is I N S A N E L Y so. The CS is on par with a GT3 and yesterday I pulled from 100 to ? (several times) on two of my friends each in GT3s and literally walked away like they weren't even trying (they were and I was the only one with a passenger!).

I'm looking very forward in riding in one of the first 430s around here (yours)!

    ahhh bennnnnnn,

learned to like after porsche made you take it, or liquidity perhaps?????....maybe also the element of the fact that CGT's are 50+ under and ten deep in autoweek!!!!!

as you predicted yourself, ben, last year!!!!

and you still ordered it.... but many people have tougher problems: i doubt there are any Stradales or CGT's roaming Afganistan tonight on Christmas eve...

but they are free at last!!!! and 20 years from now will have problems like yours....

May the sleigh tow that CGT away for you tonight. Blesssed Christmas to all.

well i ordered it a year ago july and the dealer wouldn't give back the $50k deposit so i was going to be out $50k either way. then again, you couldn't buy a CGT for $50k under if I spotted you $25k on it. none of those "10 deep" ("for sale") in autoweek are buyable anywhere near $400k (yet). hell, they won't even turn loose of the one with $150k in repairs for that (yet).

merry christmas watt. hopefully we can get together at the track this year, eh?

That's why Ferrari had the torque so low in the last three 8-cylinder cars: only slim women should be along for the ride. ;)

The F1 gets quite boring in town (ie: when you aren't pushing the car).
