Hello Ferrari chatters. I currently have the plenum off my engine doing a job on re painting it, I'm now looking at that normally impossible place to get access to on top of the engine, and wanted some advice on what I should service/replace while I'm in there...
Also I'm thinking of removing the intake manifold to give them a really good clean, maybe vapour blast. Could I come across any problems removing them? I do have new gaskets if needed.
    Thanks in advance.

The intake gasket is a pain to remove ... but I guess it might be different on different cars. It will look amazing when the cleaning job is done ...

Thermo time switch could be easier to access and test.

The coolant return line looks pretty good, but if old, it is worth replacing.

I wouldn't remove the manifolds, they can be really stuck. Upside you have cleaner parts that you can hardly see, downside is a whole lot of work and trouble. Get some foaming or gel alkaline cleaner, put it on, wait a few minutes for it to bubble a little, wipe it all off. Cover everything else while you do it so none goes astray.

The coolant "T" has a hose fitting that corrodes. The small rubber hose attached. It looks like yours is corroding (green color). The original part is some sort of alloy, so I don't know why it disintegrates, but it does. Fairly common problem. Ricambi sells a stainless steel replacement. I would replace the big end hose as well.

Is the stainless steal nipple coated? I would put a bare SS nipple in an aluminum manifold.

Whenever I have access to that area, I change the two large coolant hoses, the small coolant bleed hose, the fitting (above) if it is corroded, and clean up the top of the engine. I rarely remove the intake runners just to clean them.

Depending on your what your service records say, I would replace any hose that is more than 10 years old. If you are not sure then replace them all. Cheap insurance.

Beyond that I would not remove or replace anything. It is a very slippery slope because everything you clean or restore will make the unrestored part next to it look much worse.

Just do general cleaning with the minimum amount of disassembly.

From memory those threads on the nipple and head are straight, not pipe threads. This means they need a sealant on them. So they wind up being coated. Sort of.

Thanks for all the feed back guys.
I've decided to leave the manifolds and clean in place. I'll just remove the T section. This will allow me to replace the upper and lower large coolant hoses, and get amongst the many years of grime.
The threaded coolant hose fitting(as above) looks to be solid so will keep as is.
Any tips on lifting the t section off its gaskets? Looks to have some sealant out the sides of the gasket and seems really bonded on.
    Thanks again for the help.

Give it a good whack and shake it loose. Replace the gaskets and orings on the studs, as well as smear it with a layer of silicone since it is often a place for leaks. You don't want to have a leak there after the whole thing is back together.
