I've been looking online at the 458s for sale. I see an inordinate amount of white cars(?) Very curious to me. When I was looking for my 360, a white one was few and far between. Anyone else noticed this?
I bought a white car back in August, and it took a few months to find a good one. I feel like there are a lot of 458s out there, but not a lot of them well spec'd. When I was looking, there were probably 20 cars that just sat there. Well spec'd 2013+ ones left the market in under 24/48 hours. I had my heart broken twice and got mine by calling before the pictures were even posted and striking a deal. I do think white is a more popular color these days. I'm new to Ferrari and bought a white car. My wife doesn't like any colors beyond black, grey and white. Maybe someday I'll swing a triple layer yellow, but until then, white it is.
My 15 is a well spec'd white 458 Italia which I do like. Personally haven't seen many White 458's. This is my 2nd white Ferrari with the 1st being a 88TR. I like white on the 458, however the neg's of this color is it does hide some of it's curves & does not take a shine as nicely as some other colors.
I suspected it had something to do with that "wolf of wallstreet" movie where leonardo dicaprio's character describes having a white (not red) 512 TR. That was a 2013 movie. Movie references like that arent insignificant. Look what Sideways did for the merlot market. I heard the movie Bullitt had everyone buying blue turtlenecks. Had a white Italia; have a white GTB. Personally, I love the projection of understated elegance. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My last 911 was a white car- gray interior. I wasn't really thrilled about the color but I have to admit it grew on me. But as Gary above said, it does not reveal the lines of the car as nicely as other colors. Also have to agree with Viperjoe; It is an understated elegance. For grins, folks should go to Car Gurus, Auto Trader online, etc. and you will see what I mean. There's almost more white 458s than red ones. With all the wonderful color offerings on the 458, I'm just surprised to see so many white, black, yellow and red cars with very few blue or silver ones.
You certainly are correct. My 88TR was the direct result of Miami Vice. My white 458 Italia was the result of a stunning woman who had a White/Red Spyder. This was the first white 458 I'd ever seen at the time.
Gorgeous car Joe, I think first time I've seen your full spec. White coupe with forged rims and yellow calipers was my second choice!
White is probably the second most common color after Rossa Corsa. My guess is Giallo Modena would be third, and Grigio Silverstone fourth.
I believe with the introduction of the 458, there was a migration away from the traditional red/beige. I ended up with white on Nero as I’m in FL and didn’t want a darker color. Biggest disadvantage I see is any clear wraps start to yellow with time, and need to be replaced. Still, I love the white in a 458........
Little off topic, but in my business we restore a lot of different cars and FWIW I've found the exterior color has less to do with heat retention than the interior color. Black cars here in Florida with light tan interiors are really not that bad. But black interiors here in Florida can take a layer of skin off of your butt!! It took many years in a multitude of cars for me to realize this.
