A very strange thing yesterday for my 2001 360 Modena. Pulled out of my driveway, nice clear day, temp in the early 40s F. Heard a "fizzing" sound from the back, looked in the rear view mirror to see the engine compartment filling up with fairly thick white mist (not smoke). Engine sounded OK. Turned around quick, pulled back into driveway, whipped open the back clear bonnet and by the time I did that, it was all gone. Wasn't smoke. Engine light never came on. So I started engine and watched it for a while, completely clear, pristine engine bay. Drove a few miles, normal operating temp, oil pressure. No engine light. Car ran completely normally.

    F1 or manual?
If F1 could be an F1 fluid leak or overfill vent onto a hot exhaust.

If you find fine, white powder all over the rain gutters, etc. after the fact, it's the muffler. Otherwise, what others have posted.

Yup - this is what I would suspect as well. Of course; That’s only if you still have the original muffler in place.

Muffler is a new Tubi and there is absolutely no residual of anything after this episode. Engine bay is totally pristine. The mist occurred after a "pfffft" sound and lasted only a few seconds. Nothing at all occurred in the engine. Muffler is pristine. It's almost certainly a blown air conditioner connector or something similar. Will have it checked in the Spring. Thanks for advice and things to look for,.

This is 99% the cause. When my OEM muffler started going it spat out white "snow" like stuff that was all inside my engine bay. Materiel inside the muffler will degrade, break down and will come out and float everywhere. Good news is it is time to upgrade to an aftermarket muffler!

    See post #7.....

The OEM exhausts blow out dust but not enough to fill the engine bay with white mist.

    Did you notice an odor?

that might help isolate the issue?

I blew a AC hose on my Alfa once and had white mist coming out of the hood for about 20 seconds. It looked like the steam from a radiator overheating. There was a nasty oily residue afterwards around the leak and all parts close by.
