U.S. has the most ugly license plate. In some Asian countries, they recently switched over to euro style. I wish we have european plates. Then i wouldn't mind putting front plates. Will it ever happen? Just came to my mind.

The best license plates used in Europe are those in Switzerland because the fronts are very small and doesn't make the car looks horrible. As in Switzerland you have the highest concentration of sport cars, maybe they thought about it ;-)

u live in the wrong state.

Nv does not require a front plate if the car is not "drilled" for one from the factory.

as for the rear plate - i rather like the NV Plate.

I don't know if they are the ugliest but they certainly rank up there with the worst.

I don't like the Euro plates, but I can't really explain why. Maybe they seem more prominent on the car? The font on them is very large and very wide.

I'm having euro plates made for a couple of euro Ferraris (Boxers) I have, using the correct USA state license plate number. How long until I am pulled over?

True, but bumpers are very large and wide, so the shape suits the space.

I agree. And no, it will never happen.

I would like to see car enthusiasts clubs/organizations band together to remove the front plate requirement for classic cars, and require states to produce a European-sized plate option. Both formats would have to be available for at least a decade or two.

But you'd have to do this in all 50 dysfunctional states, which is why it will never happen.

Well the worst plates on earth are on trucks and buses in China. The law requires you to spray paint the licence on the back of the vehicle. Some are done tastefully but I've seen others that use cheap stencils or even just a guy using a spray can or brush.

So be glad the US doesn't ask you to spray paint your license number to the back of your ferrari!

This is a 'grass is greener on the other side' thing. There is nothing wrong w/US plates. The Euro plates are just different.

Well.... that is the purpose of license plates - allow identification of the vehicle. They're not there to make our cars look better. They don't do that. None of them. Having said that, a "low" wide plate suits a low, wide car better, in my opinion.

I actually like the standard NJ license plates in their lemon yellow hue. That being said, I'm not a fan of having to have two plates.

The nicest looking U.S. license plate IMO is the Delaware black plate. It is smaller than a standard plate. The are collectable and the lower the number, the higher the value. Believe it or not, somebody paid $675k for this one!

I think it's a grass is greener thing. Euro plates are larger. I'll stick with my smaller state issue plate. Of course I don't require a front. Why don't you mount a plate to the front of your car the size of a euro plate then bend the top and bottom of your state plate around it and put in a couple rivets. Don't think the officers will pull you over for that unless they catch you driving in a way that begs for it.

I have yet to see a plate that is uglier than the new plate that we have in NY. I am dreading the day that I have to stick them on my Mustang.

For those who have not seen the NY plate......

I must be in the minority, but I really like the new New York plates (depending on what color car they are on). The old ones are nice too, but those new ones looks great.

I think the worst plates are from Vermont.....

Agree with you. I opted for the new dark blue ones on my black 500e. I couldn't bear how it would have looked with that wimpy blue and white mess we have had for the last eight years or so.

The idiots who run these dysfunctional governments are missing the huge opportunity of making custom plates for those who want them. Who wouldn't pay a couple of hundred dollars for a personally designed plate that is state sanctioned? They wouldn't know what to do with the revenue it would generate. And with digital imaging technology being what it is today, there would be huge profit. All they need to do is integrate a hologram or something like it to separate the counterfeit plates from the authentic ones the state would sell. Hey, maybe this is a business op?

While I like the euro plates on euro cars, in general I like the plates we have here in the US of A much more. They are what America is about! Each state has the freedom to make the plates and rules for displaying them that they want. They are diverse in color and design. They allow far more personalization for the average citizen than what is allowed in europe. In Virgina, for example, you can personalize up to seven digits for your message plus have hundred of designs to choose from that can support causes that are important to you, without sticking a bumper sticker on your ride. Ugly or awesome, that is in the eye of the beholder, BUT no one can deny that the variety reflects the diversity and freedom that America is all about!
