I'm thinking about making an offer on a 308 that will need paint in the near future. Who in MA/southern NH/RI should I consider for the work? And how much (ballpark, assuming no issues with rust/past damage) should I be budgeting for a good bare-metal job?

We are not in MA but we aren't too far. We can certainly help. Send me an email at [email protected] and we can discuss this more.

In MA you are looking at... you're sitting down right?... $15K and up. (In fact the cheapest quote I got for my Factory paint, no damage, no rust GT4 was $17K- Highest was $24,500.)

I called EVERYONE who has ever painted a Ferrari in MA and the prices are what they are. I would strongly suggest you give Dan McKay at Bradan a call- They are not fast but they will do a meticulous job on your car and he is very competitive price-wise, and their price will include enclosed transport to their facility- Just don't be anxious for the car's return.

I could not find anyone up here who was remotely close to the price I am paying- you can see the progress of my GT4 in the Bradan section in the New York forum.

Painting a Ferrari correctly is an ENORMOUS amount of work- Most of the ebay cars you see are "Tape and Rape" jobs where the car is NOT taken to bare metal and is NOT disassembled properly. If you cherish your car and want it done right, that is not cheap.

Plenty of good restoration shops out there. I stick to southern NH, less overhead and costs. Many nice Ferraris have come out of Ferra Restoration. Owner is Bill, he has my Mondial at the moment. 603-673-2072

He does great work, and will be the best price by far

Give Boyle's Bodyworks in Arlington, MA a call. He's done many of the exotic car variety.

The car better be a deal of a lifetime and/or have been mechanically restored to consider purchasing. Most likely cheaper to find a better candidate.

Here in western MA the best place is Body Works Unlimited in East Longmeadow, Ma.. He has the latest in technology in a spray booth and equipment. He does Lambos, Ferraris, Astins, Porsche, Benz, ect.. Also any custome scheme your imagination can gather. I forgot to mention he has worked with Chip Foose. Good luck.

So a basic best case scenario is 5k for a sand and respray, not a color change. That can run 7500. A car with major rust and dents can get up to 15k fast.

Manolis from fchat also saw the 512BB. He runs SCRT aka dubyadubyadubya.supercarroadtripsdotcom

I'll also put a word in for Dan Hogan at Thunder Road Specialty Auto. He's a custom hot rod builder, and he also has experience painting 308's. He's currently got a rather well known f-chatter's car in his shop for a respray.

The 308 pictured in the above link is mine. He repaired a bunch of rust and some small collision damage and did a complete respray for around $12K.

Just curious. Do any of these guys do a single stage job or are they all base coat/clear coat?
