Every season Speed TV in the US has to concede 4 races to Fox TV, which then airs them tape delayed. The idea is to get F1 into more households at a more opportune time in the attempt to increase the fan base in the US.

So I'd like to hear from anybody on here who became aware of F1 and a fan/regular viewer thanks to these 4 races on Fox TV. Please post a reply.

Personally I don't think this is working and nothing but a total nuisance for the existing F1 fans in the US who can't watch the race live on Speed TV. So lets find out.

GIVE ME REAL TIME AND SCREW FOX

I do not like the delayed braodcast. I stay away from all spolers, if I can so I can watch the race "as if" it were real time.

Checking my moring email and other things on the web, I log onto my home page on the internet..... spoiled the race for me today. Went to my computer and there it was, without asking for it, the results of the race, not that I didn;t like the results... I did, but the entire event was completely anti-climatic.

Also what I do not like is that Fox cuts down the pre-race walk about and the post race interviews. I have grown accustomed to Speed's format, and while not being the best racing braodcasts, it's a hell of a lot more complete than the truncated Fox edited post fact version.

Seriously... who doesn't have a DVR today that would be interested in F1?

I would have no problem with Fox if they just broadcast it live at 3 in the morning. A lot of people do not have Speed or Speed HD. So, just put it on Fox in real time and let people record it. If people like it, they will record it. But, give them the WHOLE broadcast (like Speed) because again, who really cares what's on at 3 in the morning?. It's just some stupid gizmo or get rich scheme anyway. No big loss.

I never watch any program other than F1 on Speed. That's Speed's real problem.

I can't stand the delayed Fox on race. I prefer to see the race live. It is a pleasure to get up early, watch the race with a cuppa coffee and get on with my day. I do not have time to sit on my butt in the middle of the day to watch the race on Fox. I DVR it when it is in the afternoon and watch it when my work is done. The only benefit is to blast the commercials.

First, I believe FOX owns SpeedTV.

Second, the ad revenue during prime Sunday afternoon is better that at 7-8AM, so.....

Third, I doubt if anyone that suddenly becomes an F1 fan from watching the FOX delayed broadcast would be on FChat. Most here would be on a VPN or something to watch the race live. But I have talked to people new to the sport because of FOX that ask me what the hype is about since passing is novelty in F1. At least they watch, and if it means even a few percentage more F1 fans in the USA because of FOX, that is good for all of us.

Fourth, I would rather have the SpeedTV/FOX broadcasts of F1 than nothing at all, which is what we would have in the USA if not for FOX/SpeedTV. But thanks for VPN.

    Agree with all of that.

I don't think you're going to find any F1 newcomers here who found out about F1 from FOX.

Fox has the only data that matters, and IIRC they have not only continued their coverage of F1, but expanded it. I believe it was 2 races, then 3, now 4 races. So presumably something is working.

I don't like the tape delay anymore than anyone else, but I don't think we will be able to say it doesn't work to increase viewership based on an f-chat poll :)

    It works for me.
Me, too. That's why I'm fine with FOX and wish it carried all the F1 races. I like the Noon to 2 time.
+1 The question asked if FOX coverage caused us to become an aware F1 fan, then goes on to state it isn't working. That's like posting in a dirt truck racing forum in the racing section and asking if FOX coverage caused them to watch dirt truck racing. Chances are, they were already fans. Well, we are a Ferrari base, posting in an F1 section. FOX coverage isn't about that for us. I enjoy the SPEED TV coverage of F1, too. But, I won't subscribe because most of the SPEED TV subjects don't work for me. That's my reason, and I have no problem with someone who likes all the other stuff. I don't watch free NASCAR either.

I wouldn't hate it as much if the two races they aired were Brazil and Canada.

Fox didn't do all that bad, honestly. At least they kept the same commentary crew this year rather than years past when they had ******s like Derek Daly blabbing off...

I had my DVR set to record Speed only... where can I watch the race online? The race is spoiled but I'd like to actually witness the race.

Yeah I have to agree that the Hockenheim coverage was better. They did more of a pre-race show rather than "Welcome everyone to the XX Grand Prix, now turn up your speakers for the start of the race!" beginning like they often do.

One thing that Fox has in it's powers to do to promote F1 in America on the Fox network (as opposed to Speed), is to provide actual promotion and commercial time. Fox only seems to "air" the delayed replay with no advertising, promotion or commercial time. The time is also strategically placed between infomercials for some sort of gadget or another. IIRC this week it was between a fryer gizmo and how to prvent male pattern baldness. Well placed Fox to grab the gonads of the typical American!

If Fox actually produced commercials to air during the week on prime time television, the way it does Football, Baseball, and ahem.. Nascar, then just maybe they may increase the awareness of the general American audience and perhaps pull in more viewers.

With the proper commercial advertising, Fox could grow their "slice of the pie" of viewed motorsports. IRL is only on ABC once in a blue moon and not everyone has accsess to Versus cable.

I know that the majority of motorsports viewers on the major networks is of a Nascar bent, but how on earth can Fox get away with absolutely no advertising? (other than the mention on Speed by the commentators.... Speed doesn't air any Fox F1 commericials either).

Does Bernie know/care that Fox completely neglects it's advertising responsabilities to grow F1 in America??

It sure looks that way and that was my point.

Granted a Ferrari forum is not the ideal base for this, but I'm pretty sure there aren't too many new F1 fans because of Fox in general. Just because NFL, NASCAR or any other sport is on TV when I happen to turn it on, doesn't turn me into a fan of that sport.

Fox coverage DROVE ME TO THE INTERNET. I CANNOT STAND how they cover a race.

So now I get the torrent for the BBC feed and watch the race in its entirety without one single
interruption the entire race, and for that matter no mindless brain-dead Varsha blather (Speed), far better and more
    camera angles.

So Fox has their lousy coverage for me LEAVING their network.

    +1

I became a fan of SPEED because of FOX. Give me real time, live action. I hate that we don't get to hear or see post race emotions so FOX can show reruns of COPS. Plus, the frickin' commercials every 5 laps, son of a b*tch! Its a joke if you ask me and FOX recieved a pretty nasty email from me. If they can half of a day of prerace for each NASCRAP race, they can get us F1 fans another 30 minutes.

I agree with DMC 308. Let Fox cover those bloody things at 2 & 3 am on a tape delay basis.
For the most part, getting up at 6am has become a ritual, particularly if you have gotten your biological clock adjusted to that time by watching practice on Fri and qualifying on Sat.
