I'm obsessed with acquiring a TR roadster now There are maybe 50 in the world from various shops according to REDHEADED Of course my best route is to buy one already done but like I said there are only 50 in the world. I found 2 in Europe but they both seem to be euro cars so I cant federalize them. Soooo. Anybody know a really good body shop here in the US somewhere who can chop a TR for me ? Straman seems to be out of business for the moment, So who else is there ? Thanks
No, making improvements think of it as renovating a nice clasic house with a few modern updates. Maybe I'll find some old warhorse that sorely needs to be rescued & give her a new life
Try this guy. http://www.chipfoose.com/ He doesn't have a kit, but I am possitive he can do the job, and do it right right. You'll pay a pretty penny though.
William; glad to hear you're making the right choice... You have the Carbon McCoy blessing... D) You might consider some of these: EuroCoachworks Heitbrink of the Netherlands - they'll be at Cavallino next year...! NJB Automotive - they say no job is too big or too small... Skelton Ferrari Tillack & Co. - it doesn't hurt to ask... Links to all of those sites and more can be found: here... Check out Miscellaneous Services of Interest to Ferraristi... Check out Other Categories of helpful links for all things Ferrari-related... Good luck and DEFINITELY keep us posted...
I've heard of a Ferrari coachbuilder named Richard Straman in Ca who has done several Ferrari convertibles, notibly 275s, 365 GTB/4s, 512 BB, 400is, 456s(featured in Road and Track), 550... well you get the picture. He's kind of the well known standard. I think he has already done a TR, actually... Lots of hits on Google. I'm thinkin' that would be an option as they are known for this sort of thing. Just another lead best rt
Jackpot - he's done 10 and is the expert - Check this out: http://www.red-headed.com/register/straman.html
Bill Contact Barry Smith (Ultrasmith) His shop in NYC does stunning work. You may remember his targa TR. A gorgeous car, one Ferrari should have built. Jeff
Norwood Performance in Dallas has done this type of work. They did a Twin Turbo upgrade on my TR and the craftsmanship was first class. 972 831 8111
Johnbob, wow, what kind of power does this set up put out? How much boost do you run and how reliable is it. I agree about Norwood, first class shop.
My setup is fairly tame- 606 RWHP, running around 11 PSI boost. I am still running the stock internals. At some point I plan to have Norwood upgrade the internals and turn the boost up. 800RWHP is my goal. Car has proven to be very reliable.
Johnbob, please tell us, inquiring minds want to know. I have played with the idea of a Norwood setup for a while, but have yet to hear about the reliability/drivability on a long term basis, bc I plan on keeping my car a long time and don't want to rebuild the engine every 20-40k miles.
I was going to suggest Norwoods also, but I'm not sure that they're in the 'body' business any more. They DO have a 308/288 GTO conversion in the shop that's had the wheelbase stretch and a custom frame, so I know they've done that kind of work. Call them and see. If they do it, the Dallas crew will keep an eye on the progress for you.
If ASC is still taking individual customers' business, they'd be the ones to talk to. They've been chosen to do the convertible hardtop (outsourced, if you will) on the new Chevy roadster pickup, as well as a number of other projects. I believe that they've done a few Testarossa tops in the past.
