    NOT a 750 Monza.
That is a 500 TRC Spider Scaglietti with S/N 0706 MDTR.
A Monza would be 3 liter, this is a 2 liter car.

What is the white sports racer behind it? A Lotus 23B or some model of Elva, perhaps?

Maserati (a rear engined birdcage I suspect).

0706 MD/TR came and went several times over the years through our doors. It was fun on the track but overheated easily on the street unless constantly moving.

One of the nicer TRC but with a rather odd configuration.

Is it fair to call it a 500 TRC or should it be called a 750 TRC???

There are two "matching" number motors for this car. It has both a 2.0-liter engine and a 3.0-liter 4-Cylinder engine.

If you go back through the history of the car after Le Mans, you will see it was extremely successful at the hands of Gus Andrey who lived in my home town back East.

What few realized is that while running in the 2.0-liter class, the car actually had a 3.0-liter engine.

Another one of those cases of one car / one engine / same number being nothing more than a myth.

It was racing and if the client where willing to pay, you could get whatever you wanted form Ferrari... wait can't you still do that ???

By the way, if anyone has an open bonnet shot of the car at Le Mans in 1957, we might be able to see if the "cheating" went on from the car's debut race at Le Mans and not a few months later when it arrived in the States.

    Warm regards,

    Bill Noon

as between the series II 500 Mondials and the late 750 Monzas, the only visual distinction between the tipo 111 and 119 motors is in the slightly larger diameter headers and the somewhat shorter, stubbier velocity stacks on the 119s. There is definitely evidence that Ferrari swapped these motors in and out of the same cars on any given race weekend. Certain cars had so many swaps, we frankly do not know what to call them; 500s or 750s!

Ineresting thought, but a very very very long shot. Too long, if I am to judge, but we're already used to that. Best wishes, Kare

I believe that Birdcage Maserati was sold last via the Imperial Palace car museum in Las Vegas, at least that is where I saw it last and sat in it (most cramped feeling on the planet by the way).
