I currently have Verizon for my local service and AT&T for long distance for my home phone service. Problem is I am paying about $90 a month for my phone service, and my wife and I do not use the phone much. Is there a phone company that is cheaper for local, state, and long distance? Does any company offer complete phone service for $49 a month or cheaper. I am at the point where I am considering canceling my home phone and just using my cell phone.

I use Verizon too for everything. My bill comes to about that, but it also includes unlimited calling(Canada included), all the bells and whistles including answering and high speed DSL. I understand that the online calling is running about $29+(unlimited) or so. They claim the quality is superior. You may want to check that out.

We also use Verizon cell and don't plan on changing. My inlaws all have T-mobile phones that don't work anywhere (they seem incapable of receiving a signal through walls or glass, or outside cities). We had only the Verizon cell for 3 years, but recently added a landline through a university service provider PAETEC to get our fax machine line.

We had (now defunct) Voicestream before Verizon and EVERY month we had to call and adjust our erroneous phone bill, which would always have a random call or two costing 5x our stated rate.

Try www.zoneld.com they are great! They do, local, and long distance. They have great rates, especially for overseas.

I have at&t GSM. Works great. It is all I use. My bill is around $100 a month. No long distance charges, no roaming. Works in europe but at a higher rate.
