I avoid it like the plague! I loathe any 'special' day that was created by a greeting card company that sucks us in to spending money on diamonds, flowers, candy and horrible dinners out where the restaurants are so busy, you are lucky to get your water glass refilled!

Every day should be Valentine's Day if you really love the one you are with. I'm no walk on the beach to be with all the time, but Melodie knows I'm a decent guy and does not expect to be showered with flowers on this goofy a$$ day!

I'm glad that others feel this way too. If you need a special holiday to be nice to your significant other, your relationship is probably up the creek. My girlfriend knows not to even discuss Valentine's Day with me. The dinners, trips, gifts and nights out during the year are because I enjoy spending time with her, nothing changes on the 14th.

As far as I'm concerned, it's business as usual tomorrow.

This year I told my wife we weren't going anywhere for dinner on the 14th. We will go out on the 16th instead and she knows better than to look for a $5.00 Hallmark card from me. :) She did get a new Eddie Bauer Expedition Sat. though so I am calling that a Valentine's Day Present :)

I agree. We don't do anything special, sometimes we exchange cards. It's kind of like New Years Eve. You go to the same restaurant you normally go to, but now the food is twice as expensive because it's New Year's? Just another way to extract money from us. I don't think so.

If you're not Catholic, why would one celebrate St. Valentine's Day anyway? It's like all these non-Christians that celebrate Christmas...

We are this year. It was actually my girlfriend's idea this year... but she still wants flowers since I think it's a pride thing at her office, and if she didn't get any flowers it would look bad.

We have gone out a few times last weekend instead. Last year we went to a nice Italian place, and right after we finished eating, we saw friends of ours who had just got there... so our meal turned into a 4 1/2 hour dinner.

Yup. I dodged that bullet my inviting the girl I'm seeing over for a home-cooked meal. "Oh, it's more romantic that way, baby...." i.e. romantic = cheap :D
