I actually continued training w/ my instructor for X winds (more of them) until I'm more confident w/ these I will not plan ANY trips. I got caught in some pretty herendous winds on my last solo x-country and fortunatly not an incident BUT scared the crap out of me .(Landing and take off I was NOT AHEAD OF THE SITUATION,simply reacting to it in miliseconds behind the situation) Thats not fun or smart ,its stupid to continue w/out paying attention to my own red flags. Were doing a training on the G1000 172 Cessna Ive got 3 hrs as PIC on this unit and picked up the CD version manual to study today. Caught some light xwinds today and handled them well. MY355
Hi Rob, Did things work out yet?? I hope so! .......We need someone in the pipeline here, after me..... Charlie
Congrats to everyone here on this post. I am a new member and just started about 3 weeks ago trying for my PPL and have a total of almost 5 hours. I live in the Netherlands and I have had a couple of lesson years ago in the USA, and let me tell you things are different here. No entering the pattern at 45 degrees, its straight in approach and look out for other airplanes. On my training days looks like rain, no problem it is still a go. Very windy still no problem it is still a go. Living in a country surrounded with so much water near the north sea it would be impossible to have any lessons if you had to cancel for bad weather. I tell you this American dude is really getting a work out in a Tecnam. The cost here is 270 US Dollars per hour believe me I can not wait to get back to finish my training in the USA before I go broke. I really enjoyed reading all your post and success to everyone. I started training in April and have 24 hours so far. Just did my night cross-country last night. I've been blogging my entire training at http://shanehjulberg.blogspot.com as a way to let people know how it's going. Up next is a solo cross-country! Shane.
Started training last December. When I was flying 3 times a week things went pretty fast, but when work travel or wx shut things down for weeks, it took a couple of flights to recover. You can't let that bother you. I let it get to me. I wanted to finish before it got really hot here, but you know what, we had a freak cold front arrive, and I had low humidity and wind for checkride day. I had my instructor take me up on 25G33 kt winds to practice landings, and did some sweet flap up landings. You know what? The examiner had me do a flap up landing when returning to base. Best landing I ever did. Insurance has made flight training almost impossible in less than ideal conditions.
Well it's only been just over a week since my last post on here. And I'm another 13 hours into my training...38.5 so far. In those 10 days or whatever, I did my first solo cross country, and today I did my long solo cross country. Almost there... I just need another 1.8 of hood time, and then of course pass the checkride. -Shane http://shanehjulberg.blogspot.com/
Im working on it, I did a few flights so far this summer...but Im taking a forced break for a bit here. My Lightspeed twenty 3g head set isnt working properly. Audio is non existant and the mic is not picking up sound no matter how close or far I place the mic. So I have to send it off to them in Orgeon....this sucks.
Don't let technical problems with an item as mundane as personal equipment, make you stop...... (I assume you've checked / replaced the batteries....) Borrow one from a friend, another pilot or even the flight school. You don't anything but, to hear what is being said, for a few moments at a time.... Bells, whistles, Knobs & switches, and a host of "doo dads" are optional..... Do you really need : a Cell/Satellite Phone Interface Patented AES "Auto Shut-Off"? a Battery Status Indicator? Personal Side-Tone EQ? .................. Stereo? for flight lessons? I doubt if you'll get a bad mark, or fail a lesson, for the dreaded "BROKEN HEADSET" Alternatively, do as I did... Get a second headset, (albeit a cheap one, on eBay) as a backup. here is a start: ( Disclaimer: I have no interest in these items, financial or otherwise) http://motors.search.ebay.com/headsets_Pilot-Gear_W0QQcatrefZC6QQfcclZ1QQfclZ3QQfposZ07747QQfromZR10QQfrppZ50QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQsacatZ26440QQsacqyopZgeQQsadisZ200QQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZunknown Your occasional "extra" passenger can use it, once you get checked out... and as a plus.... They'll think of you as "Oh, so thoughtful" Charlie aka Skyraider .
I'm working on it too, although I havent' flown in a couple of years. I have a lot of hours , but haven't solo'd yet. 150's (one) 152 (one) 172's (several) 180 (a couple) Warrior (several) Archer (once)
Just had my first lesson yesterday. I realize that there is A LOT to learn! The first day was slightly frustrating, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Gotta go do the reading and get ready for my next lesson tomorrow. What a fun hobby!
