Is my car the only one that's had its stock oil cooler replaced with a smaller 328 one, sans fan, at some point in its life?

I ask because I recently learned that a specialty heat exchanger shop in the UK can make one for £575, but said they could take 10% off if we order a batch of five or 20% if we order a batch of ten.

I suspect the only reason these coolers would fail is a result of damage when removing the hose fittings - those are big fittings and if they seized up I could see how you could break the unit. Or, maybe also stress/ vibration cracks over the very long term?

I do buy some parts without immediate needs to have my own spares. Can you give more colour of why yours has failed, or is it just the wrong one in there and you want to address that?

I have no idea because mine has been fitted with the incorrect 328 unit, sans fan, as long as I've owned it. (I've since built a little metal shroud to fill the empty space, and fitted a motorcycle radiator fan and eBay thermoswitch to the 328 cooler, but I'm very tempted by the opportunity to return it to stock—just wish it was a couple hundred bucks less costly.)

I've seen others in the same state, so I was wondering if this was a well-known chronic problem from corrosion or something. At least one owner told me that their car was missing the fender liners, such that it was only a matter of time before gravel/debris kicked up by the tires ruined the oil cooler.
