Wouldn't that be preposterous, a McLaren with a #1 on its nose...
It shows how things have changed. If Michael and Renault win, it would be analogous to 1973, when Stewart and Lotus won. When Jackie retired, the #1 switched to Lotus as the constructor's champion, and Ronnie Peterson spent the 1974 season wearing #1 on his Lotus.
Well that implies that a Ferrari will not have a 0 on its nose. But let's say for arguments sake that the Ferraris will have 0 and 2. Who gets the 0 and who gets the 2? Come to think of it, why would they get a 2 anyway? Fisi is #2 in the points right now, and may hold that spot. By the way, do you realize that, if Michael wins at Suzuka and Alonso doesn't finish the race, then Michael is automatically WC??? (more races won).
got nothing to do with Fisi. it has something to do with who takes the world title. say suppose MS wins, he'll take the number #1 with him to retirement. most likely, massa will get #0, and kimi #2. if FA wins, he'll take number 1 to mac next yr. and assuming that hamilton is his teammate, he'll take #2
In case of a retirement from the sport, such as Mansell/92 and Prost/93 did, I was under the impression that it is the driver who can decide if the team can still use the number 1 on the car or not. I think both Mansell and Prost were indifferent to the team using number 1 post their WDC seasons. But it was Prost/93 and Senna/94 who chose to not use "1" on their cars because they didn't earn it in the previous year. And neither one wanted to use "0" thus both elected to use "2" on their cars. Which means if MS does win the WDC this year, he can give the team and drivers the option to use his number 1 status if they wanted to. Is this not the case?
