I had one for two years from age 11-13. It was a second-rate paper that nobody subscribed to, but everyone got it delivered! I'd go to each house to collect each month. The people that actually read it, paid me. After about three months, I got smart and only delivered the paper to the people that paid me (About fifteen out of 150 homes!). That route took me about 20 minutes after school each day. I tossed the rest of the papers each day that I was suposed to deliver!

I had a pipe route. I would skip High School and on the way home, help young stay at home brides with their plumbing. They even gave me a little walking around money too. I miss those days.

'Pipe route'? That's fresh! Did the young brides ever let you 'lay some pipe'?

Guy down the street from me, had a Murcielago until recently- now he's driving a Bentley. Anyway, he has these big passenger vans, with windows, but no seats- commercial sized, filled with these newspapers that look like Pennysaver type papers. I was told that his "job" is that he owns a company that prints these things and distributes them, god knows where. Every once in a while, a couple of those large passenger vans, lots of windows, no seats, are parked in front of his house.
The license plate on his Bentley reads: "Paprboy"

Payperboy 2 was one of my favorite Super Nintendo games.

My sister had a paper route that I had to do when she was sick or having babies. I also filled in for a friend who went on vacation once. It's a lot of fun to deliver papers at 3:30 AM when you're with someone else who's also tired as Hell and running on caffeine. Everything's funny at that point.

My parents and I had a paper route. We actually had 3 paper routes. We delivered over 1100 papers, 3 times a week. It helped us pay off our van. Gotta do what you gotta do to make ends meet. That was 10 years ago.

I had a paper route from age 9 to 20, by the end I was making more throwing newspapers than I was working a fulltime job at a manufacturing plant. 7 days a week, I worked 3 years straight without a day off.

That was a long time ago..

at the age of 16 i got my drivers license then got a job delivering auto parts. i loved it !! a new driver getting to drive all day in a co. truck racing around town and beating up on the truck. after about a month they said i was so fast delivering and did such a good job they wanted to bring me inside and work in the stock room. i guess they thought i would be fast stocking the parts, i said no way and quit.

I had 3 routes as a kid. We had 2 morning local papers and one afternoon one. I spent 3 - 4 hours a day on my bike and made nearly $400 every 2 weeks.

One guy never paid his bill. I called my boss after the 3rd week and he said give him another 2 weeks, I did. After that my boss knocked so hard on this guy's door he broke the glass. The guy came running out and my boss told him "how this was going to work". I have never been in such a scary and funny situation in my life!

I had one when I was 14-15. It wasn't bad except Sundays when the paper was so big I had to make many trips to reload my bag instead of just two or three.

The biggest pain for me was collecting from people and hearing, "I don't have the money right now can you come back next week?". These were usually the same people who would complain if you were 5 minutes late with thier paper!!
