I'll blame this on Vince who hijacked the x-mas party thread with an idea on how to make the bleek winter months more Ferrari friendly:

We could race each other in different Ferraris over the Internet. All you need is a fast internet connection (no dial-up), an X-box and a cool game such as Project Gotham Racing 2 or Forza. Up to 8 racers can duell each other through cities (yes, Chicago included) or on tracks.

So far Rocketboy, Vince and I could participate. Any other takers?

Don't cheat, we should race stock. I don't want to see any Koenigseggs sneaking into the race or crazy souped up 355s. You want to throw a wing on the back of a Dino ( would that be the most comparable to the 308? ) go for it. I won't throw an aero kit on the 575. Vince, do not twin turbo or supercharge a 355...

Regardless of being on XBox Live, we can still meet and just link up Xboxes. Therefore the cars you have unlocked are availible to you and others. It just becomes a question of a meeting place, enough TVs, outlets, and seats.

    RocketBoy

PS: My XBox Live account should be back online by the end of the week, ( just bought a spiffy new computer for the house.) I will PM people the screen name.

    Ok...blame it on me...
I did not mean to hijack the Xmas party thread but I can't help thinking out loud sometimes.

    Thanks.

    Well that makes 4....

Well if the FOC guys do not have game systems we may just have to open this up to anyone and everyone...
Don't worry Rocketboy I'm stock all the way...

    Thanks.

This is quite interesting and it might be the one thing that convinces me to get a real Internet connection instead of my meagerly dial-up...

In the collectables forum there have always been plenty of folks who wanted to stage races. So if 8 is the max number (according to Rocketboy), I'm sure we could get four IL and 4 nationwide folks together.

I'm never driving stock, I need a rear wing. It's a freakin' eighties thing...

    Andreas,
If you are noy LIVE you are missing out....I must warn you, once you start racing with others in cyberspace in can get addictive...It's a whole new world of great racing and (as much as I hate to say it) some trash talking.

As far as PG2 goes there are rooms of 8. I am just confirming what Rocketboy said..

    Thanks.

I can imagine that. So far I prefer to race against the computer as I can beat it. If I get blown into the weeds by some teenage boy (very likely) my ego couldn't stand that. After all I'm the world's best racer, who hasn't yet been discovered...

Sorry, has to be X-Box for Forza or PGR2 to work.

PS2 gives you GT4 though, which I personally find even better than Forza.

However PGR3 on Xbox 360 should blow them all away. Can't wait. :)

I think Andreas would enojoy Call of Duty 2 which is coming out on the 360.
Andreas are you playing Halo 2 online? If you like to shoot'em up, that game rules! H2 is the king shooter and the most played "Live" game..without question.
PG3 is going to be the way to go. We need to get as many F-Chatters on board as possible.

    Thanks.

Be happy to challenge you to a Slayer match anytime. My former JROTC, paintball and hunting buds stick to that game. Personally I find it alright but I hate some Live experiences that Andreas is talking about. Getting your azz handed to you by a 14 year old who spends 6 hours a day playing the game, umm no thanks... (Covering spawn points? Get a life. )

Never once have I enjoyed any of the Gotham series racing games. If I had to play that one it would be through forced will. I definitely am a fan of Forza and think the crowd would like it better too. But Im certain its limited to 8 players per race. Oh well.

It is rare that I play anything that is not racing related. Duke Nukem was such a case and currently I'm working my way through Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

Rocketboy, I have to lend you my copy of PGR2 because it really is a great game: Tons of great cars with fairly realistic handling. Many Ferraris and real World Cities as the tracks. Chicago is represented so well, that you can e.g. see the green clock on Wacker and State. Only compromise is, that all the center pieces/dividers/islands in the middle of the streets have been removed to make room for the track.

I practiced Edinborough before I went there on vaca in September. When I drove my rental car around town, it felt like home. Really, it is that good.

Apart from that the soundtrack in PGR2 is taken from real radio stations from the cities.

PS: If you have played PGR1, there is no comparison. PGR2 is better by a long shot.

I would be happy to shoot'em up or lay down some rubber with you guys anytime!
I got you on my list Rocketboy so we will hook it up soon..
I have to agree with Andreas, PGR2 is kool no doubt. When Andreas gets his high speed connection going we will have to hook it up. Until then we can plan a system link think if you guys want. My friends and I do it for Halo every so often and it's a riot...
As soon as I get my hands on a 360 and PG3 I will let you guys know...

    Thanks.

    Alright, I am in.......

Went out and got an XBox and the whole setup. I have plans for this with my party/meet for the spring (you guys will all be invited). I got two controllers, two headsets (for trash talking), my cable, Forza and Project Gotham Racing.

Actually, for those interested, Best Buy has a sweet deal right now that gives you XBox, Forza (the racing game), AND a two month free trial of XBox Live. This is ALL you need to race the guys here on the board. All for $179. Not bad at all!!!

Next on the list is the nice steering wheel/foot pedal controls. I will probably get that off Ebay though as I have seen it for around $30 for the nice ones. Less for the cheaper ones....

Fanatec Speedster 3 is THE perfect wheel/pedals for Forza. Microsoft doesn't own the rights to force feedback (Sony does), so they had to be inventive to come up with something resembling it. That was always poorly done in previous games. But this wheel is as good as it gets (short of buying a PS2 with the Logitech GT4 wheel). Everything else is crap.

There is even a Ferrari 360 Modena wheel with force feedback (or something like it) for the XBox, but it is only being sold in Europe. I imported mine (along with power conversion and all), but the Fanatec is better and available in the States.

The Fanatec is directly supported in Forza. However if you want to play PGR2 with it, you need to tweak its settings.

Now go have fun unlocking cars and tracks!

    Thanks Andreas....

I will go look for that one.....

Hey, am I correct in my understanding that you DON'T have high-speed and are still using dial-up???

I have a pretty sweet setup going. I am about to install the XBox to it. I was just running it off the TV last night...

I have a 52" TV with a surround sound setup that has two front tower speakers, one front center channel, one rear center channel, two rear surround speakers, and TWO powered 12" subs running at around 250 watts EACH!! This thing should POUND when I get it set up....

    Oh yeah,
My screenname is "4RE Owner". Nice huh?? ;-)

*****Actually, for LIVE, my screenname is "Ferrari Owner"......

For my own "racing career" stuff on Forza it was 4RE Owner since you couldn't spell out my "LIVE" name.....

    I will add you "Darkness"....

    True, still on dial-up.

My PS2 and PC setup is kinda sweet too: Front half of a race car with pedals, steering wheel and all. LCD projector for the image and speakers next to your head. Computers and sound system hidden in the sidepods. :)
