And are they too loud, or drone inside the car?
Looks like I "might" have a faulty cat, and can't see me paying the silly money to replace it if that's the issue.

Looking for a plan B really for "just in case".

    TIA

Isn't the exhaust noise limit in nz 95 db? Surely won't be able to get a wof with straight pipes. Also pretty sure it's illegal to have no cats in nz

    Would they be that loud?

If you told the guy who doe's the WOF it's factory they'd usually let it go, but if they are that loud I don't want them anyway.

    Thanks

Iirc the wof guy does a subjective sound test based on just listening to it. If he then considers it louder than stock you get referred to a low volume certifier who do an objective test which for a 8 cylinder engine is at 3000 rpm and is measured about a metre or two away from the exhaust.

If you are louder than 95 db you have to modify the exhaust. The legislation states you can make modifications so long as they are no louder than stock or are under the 95db (if car imported after like 2009 then it's 90db but doubt that will apply to you). Thus if you had a cs it would fail the 95db for sure but theoretically would be okay, even with modifications if it was not louder than stock (guessing stock would be around 105db as 3k rpm)

Personally I think you could find someone willing to give you a wof. If cops stop you thinking it's too loud then you will be compelled to do the objective test and get a certificate starting your exhuast complies. Think low volume certifier do this.

Potential way around this: the legislation states that the car cannot be louder than when ManufActured at factory. You could mount the argument that the ferrari racing exhaust, which is a factory product (not sure if it's on 360 option list?) but anyway it's about as loud as a cs but the factory fit it to 360s thereby you can bypass the 95db because your car isn't louder than when manufactured ;)

Not sure how loud in terms of db a 360 is. People apply too many different parameters I.e testing at diff Rpms or even full throttle flyby. Hopefully someone else will chime in with regards to that. I have a feeling that even a capristo 3 with stock hearers and cats would be louder than 95db but probably isn't obnoxiously loud for anyone to put it to an objective measured test

In any event a car without cats is illegal in nz. Could potentially have implications on some insurance policies. Probably unlikely actually given most offer coverage in illegal situations (I.e have no wof at time of accident or are speeding etc).

Sports cats may be a good option.

    Thought as much

Boy in the past I have ripped CAT's out of 911's and never had an issue, and those cars would almost wake the dead.

Think the law change was around 2007-2008 in an effort to clamp down hard on boy racers.

In actuality I think the cops and wof testers give considerable latitude to those that don't fit the boy racer stereotype. Good luck with your issue. Keep the thread updated with what you decide to do :)

Hopefully your cats will be fine

Main dealer has no problem issueing wofs without cats. Your car now qualifies for annual wofs. So once a year wof and service. Easy. Mine was too loud for me with decat pipes and tubi. Have sports cats now. Quieter, about half way between stock and decat.
