Thought it might be interesting to know of anyone who has been lucky enough to own their Supercar from new. I think this would be fairly rare but it may bring up some interesting names. Even those that may have been passed down the family given some of these cars are 30 years old.

Anyone know of anyone who has owned a 288GTO, F40, F50, Miura, Countach from new?

    Regards,

    Matthew

I know of a few F40's owned since new....can't think of the names now. I'm sure Joe knows.

IMO a Countach is not a supercar either. :)

    Matt,

I know of 6 USA F40 owners that purchased the car new (1990 to 1993) and still have them. The are more I'm sure.
I'm aware of at least 12 people that purchased 288 GTOs new worldwide in 1984/85/86 and still have them according to my list. Again I'm sure there are more than that...
I'm also aware of 5 people that purchased Miuras new and still have them, including 2 that simply drove them out of the factory gates at Sant Agata and have them in their possession today.
I haven't counted how many original Countach owners Ive got on my private registries but Id say for now its something like a dozen...

Several of the aforementioned cars were purchased by 'dad' and are now being driven/maintained/owned by the son. A famed USA hotelier is one such example (the car is a Miura purchased in 1967) and I can think of 4 or 5 others, such as a 288 GTO purchased new that is now in the daughter's garage.

I even know of one story where son was told: "If you do not marry that girl, you will get the Miura SV". Girl immediately forgotten, SV in the garage today.

Another cool story involves a gentleman (who on a 288 GTO and an Enzo) who purchased back his dad's owned-from-new Miura SV after it had been gone from the family for 15 years. I know this man and it will never leave the family again...

The common thread I see amongst all the aforementioned is that they are very private families that don't always share the cars with the public at events and in clubs. I also know that they don't go around bragging: "Its a keeper" or "Ill never sell it!" and such nonsense. They just get on quietly with the business of being good custodian for their steeds (or bulls)...

I knew that would crop up. I think it deserves to be in the subject given its iconic status and desirability.

    Thanks Joe.

I find it amazing the little numbers but it is as you say, numerous cars being passed down the line, private families etc. Good on them. I imagine the passion these owners have for these cars is stronger than anything most folk experience.

Some wonderful stories that we'll most likely never hear.

    Regards,

    Matthew

So a '92 F40 sat on a "lot" until '93, or was it a late build that wasn't delivered until '93 Joe?

Kind of off-subject but not really, if you are the original buyer of one of these supercars, do you pay a mark-up, or is that soley second-hand?

My assumption is that you would not pay a mark-up. And furthermore (the off-topic part), when you purchase a 430, 599, or 612 brand new after waiting on the list, do you pay a mark-up or do you pay MSRP..?

I think it was just a year or so ago that there was a "new" F40 that had never been titled for sale on dupont registry.

My dad has both his Miura SV and Countach since new.

I know of one Enzo owner in Palm Beach that purchased the car new.

There is a collector on the west coast of Florida that has a LM002, 25th and F40 since new.

My big chance to join this thread will be the F70 if I am lucky enough to get one. Too young/poor when any other cars that I would keep for a long long time came out
