I'm going this year and hoping New Jousey happens next year so I can attend it also. There's only one chance to go to the first one. Does that sound a little obvious?
You make an excellent point! I do hope the event goes well and its memorable for all those who do attend. I wish it was easier for me to get there/timing and my schedule.
My wife and I will be there. (also Montreal, and will be in Maranello with the wife & kids for the first GP if anyone else will be there; staying at the Planet). What hotels are most people staying at? Kevin
To all the folks on this thread who state that they're going to the race this year: Where are you staying? Unless you already have a reservation, things look grim: - nothing available in Austin - whatever is available around Austin has NON REFUNDABLE rooms So: If there is no race, you're out the thousand bucks you just paid for a motel near a shopping mall.
How did you get that reservation? Booked a long time ago? If I go on expedia, pretty much everything is blocked/sold out/non refundable.
Buried in the other thread Andreas is my post on Bed & Breakfasts in New Bransfels, 45 minutes south of the track. They don't even know what 'F1' means!!!!! I'll probably be down there to 'host" at both places, and I have a house on South Congress for the HUGE FERRARICHAT (& friends and hot women....and ....and.....) CAR CORRAL and there is an Italian place right across the street. You can stay there if you want! I can also put you RV camping along the Colorado River in Bastrop.....private ranch.
Going to a Formula 1 race has been one of my dreams, but college expenses are really holding me back I'm going to try my best to go.
I chose the last option but it has more to do with my strained travel budget this year than the reason stated. Plus I look at it like buying a car in the first model year - not typically the best idea. >8^) ER
I have two rooms booked, one downtown, and one north of town. The one north of town may be more of a drive, but it is a full efficieny, kitchen, etc. Andreas, when I figure out what I am doing, and that one of these places does not pull a scam, you are welcome to take the second room. There was no minimum and cancellation was uup until 48 hours. I think the one downtown was $200/night, bad was it was a smoking room. I will probably be living in El Paso by summer, so we will likely do the 8 hour drive. I did not make a reservation deposit, no grandstand plan with 9 months to go does not give me a warm and cozy feeling. My confidence that there will be a USGP at COTA in 2012 is getting less and less daily. Now under 50%.
We have 2 rooms booked at the Gruene Mansion Inn, on BigTex's recommendation. With the Grist Mill restaurant and Gruene Hall walking distance, it should be a great spot to unwind. Paying around $220 a night for river view.
How about the track and the serenade of F1 power to welcome you and the bride to wedded bliss Congrats. Im thinking your special day is far more important than F1!
Definatly plan on going. My best friend and I are going to road trip, him from the Bay Area me from Boise. Then on to New Orleans after. That's the current plan which of course is fluid.
Was driving to Austin late Friday night and ended up staying at a new Holiday Inn Express in Salado since I was extremely tired. The hotel was next to the I35, but a little off the normal exit area for the city of Salado. There was also another new hotel on the same side of the freeway (East side), and both hotels were practically empty. If people are still having issues getting hotel reservation, these might be a good option since they don't seem to be very well known. Another nice thing about these hotels is that there are just North of where the 130 toll road.
She actually said we could spend the first day of the honeymoon going to the race, but I decided I couldn't do that to her
