With many older Ferraris from Europe and the US making the trip to Adelaide this November for the Classic Adelaide, it occurs to me that Australian owners might be here in force, even if they aren't competing.

Will the Ferrari Club have a meet here at the same time? Are you guys coming for the event anyway? Will you bring your Ferrari?

It is a great event (speaking as a spectator) and lots of fun off the track too. It would be great to see some Australian FChatters here in Adelaide! :)

I really want to go to either Targa Tasmania or this event in Adelaide, but by the sounds of it this will be getting some very nice entries....plus its cheaper to fly there so it might be the better choice :)
Is there also a chance to see the cars up close on display in-between the driving stages?
Oh, and will you be entering the Gallardo?

The opportunities to see the cars up close are many and varied. There is a display the day before (I think) and on the Friday, all the cars are parked in the street in the restaurant strip in Gouger Street. More to the point, you see the cars driven in anger from many vantage points, and between stages, checking out the cars at close quarters is easy.

I thought about entering my car, but unless I want to drive at the speed limit, I have to wear a helmet (required for 130kph class moderns) and there really isn't the headroom to do this.
    :(

well, don't think i'll be putting the X in it this year, however a certain proud new owner of australia's only group-b turbo-frog wants to but it means roll-cages and messing with the car.

the way the G carves up the Adelaide hills it could navigate itself... you should at least run in the "touring" category... give the rest of us something to look at other than porkers. :p

i find it strange that Lamborghini would create such a sinister tarmac-eater so obviously capable when angry, yet not allow for an extra inch of cranium-size. of course it's designed by Italians, so the target market are people with short legs and long arms.

you sure there's not an extra "down" movement to that fancy electronic seat adjustment thingy? you're not that tall. :D

Maybe a tighter fitting helmet would do it. I've only tried my old Shoei and that is huge.

Would they settle for one of those old RAAF leather flying helmets, do you think? :D

Somehow, I think it might now be difficult to encourage our interstate friends to make the trip. Getting this image out of one's mind isn't easy! I won't ask where you found the pic - some things are better left alone. :D

if yer bored, here's a couple crappy previews of the battlefield: Gcar - Xcar

yes, plenty. you'll also find a lot of the entrants just cruising about on the streets in the week prior to the event, especially up and down the freeway to the hills.

last year i was just cruising along south of the city and i see a red Porsche 944 turbo screamin up behind me with Classic Adelaide warpaint on it. at the light i glanced over and sitting in the driver's seat was Eric Bana... i was skeptical for a second because i thought he was entering his old aussie V8 POS, but i later found out that had a problem so he was using the Porker.

not sure if he didn't hear me or just ignored me, but i got no reaction when i called out the window "Hey, Poida!". :D

Nice raw vids Ash. I love the X in the rain. The trip to the NT in the G looks a bit scary though, although the sunrise makes up for it. Looks like the guy in the HiLux must have missed a gear! ;)

i have to admit the dino needs a run and has been booked in the classic adelaide, but the r 5 would be the real hoot, but cos the r5 is built in 1985 it qualifies as a current car. same with the tr,
Ash can you put in the photo of the r5 cos i cant reduce it.

we'll have to discuss just how much "fun" is likely to be involved, but yeah pencil me in for shotgun.

i can't tell for sure from the pics, but is there any sort of barrier between the cockpit and the "engine bay"?? doesn't seem to be, but i'm guessing some sort of lid covered in crushed-80's-velvet goes over it...

the velvet is straight out of the Q club or the velvet glove in Whitmore Sq, but me thinks it kinda is similar to the Mars Bar!! and 4 all those sydney siders consider oxford st and u know aot we r on about.

but remember nothing too explosive cos 0-160 in 11 secs is kinda not F car territory

And i'm not too sure how many bolts hold it in place!!!!!!!!

hmm can't be right now that i think of it or you'd be looking at a 13 second 1/4 mile, yours does it in the mid-high 14's. i think the Gallardo does 0-100mph in around 10 secs, and that's spankingly quick.

still, for a 20 year old 1.4L french car... i'd like to see what other road-reg cars under 1.5L can get under 16 seconds on the 1/4 off the showroom floor.

yeah it's a bit confusing cos we gotaa be sure otherwise we can be called doofuses. so is it sub 14 and closer to 13 or 0-160 in 11 sec, and if that be the case what does an tr, 360,gallardo, m3, gt3, etc do
