I don't tell anyone. Unless they see me with it, or come to my house and happen to see it, nobody would know. I don't drive it to work, and the only folks there that know about it have been friends before they were co-workers. My daily driver is a Hummer H1 and that was enough of an attention-getter for the past years. When I upgraded from a 95 model to a 2001, I bought the same color again and most folks think it is still the same old truck through the years.

I won't bring up my Ferrari in conversation unless asked directly.

rather ironic that this thread pops up now.....

I am rather secretive about it except with close freinds and true car enthusiasts. My wife feels the same way. I find that unless another can benefit from the sharing - it comes across wrong and that doesn't make them (or us) happier so we're careful about with whom and when we share the info.

My wife has lots of family in Canada and one of her northern cousins had been restoring a another vintage car for about 10 years. We never even knew he was a car guy.... He would often visit the family in Massachusetts but the topic just never came up. He happened to be in town when I brought the lusso home and we had a real nice visit. We learned much about our common ground and it's safe to say- we became much more freinds than casual cousins -in-law and had a great visit. Of course I was flying high at time anyway.

This past weekend was his only daughters wedding and we attended. Being fairly discrete, we chatted about the cars but our time was limited by his weekend commitments. A few other family members he had told, also asked about the car, but it was pretty discrete and given the occasion, I was happy to keep it low key becuase the groom and his freinds seemed to be car guys- but even I know the bride must remain center stage.

As the function closed, I said my good byes and went to get my wifes explorer from the lot becuase her good byes tend to run long. After what seemed like too long, she got in the car and I was a little annoyed and made one of my usual "less than tactful" remarks about talking fly's off dung piles... and she flipped on me!

It seems that as guests lined up to say good byes, the groom rather excitedly asked another gentleman in line if HE was the cousin from Massachusetts with the red '64 Ferrari. A bunch of people got real quiet and were all looking at the guy waiting for the answer so the guy steps out of line- and says ... "No.. I don't see him but THAT's his wife..." as he points to my wife as if in a line-up.

Needless to say- not the best time to tease her about her longwinded good bye's.

I guess this is one of the perks of living in the SF Bay Area.

Nobody give a frak what you drive. There are plenty of exotics that you can spot every day.

You don't have to keep your car ownership a secret of feel bad about it. There are still lots of good jobs available out here.
