My choice would have to be Peter Forsberg, however that is a tough call between him and Nick Lidstrom. Who is your pick?
Tough call, I'd probably go with Forsberg too, other choices maybe Elias, Iginla(even though he's stayed under the radar most of the season) or Thornton. Best player ignoring the physical aspect-Joe Sakic...
Joe Thornton, easily... And not just because he won the scoring title this season, either. He can shoot and score, but he prefers to pass to Cheechoo who has a wicked shot. The points title is only one facet of his game - he's incredibly calm, controls the game, plays INSANE "D" for a center, draws penalties practically at will, and is a force to be reckoned with in the faceoff circle. The guy just doesn't quit. He's unbelieveable, but he won't get the credit he deserves b/c he plays in the Western Conference and, more often than not, by the time his games are over, the East Coast sports media and fans are fast asleep in bed.
The NHL is a hell of a lot more interesting to watch than most of the other crap that recieves all the hype. Anyways, back on topic...I don't know who I would call the best player right now but the two guys who scare me the most when they play the Avs are Todd Bertuzzi and Mike Modano.
I think Forsberg is the best player in the NHL when he is healthy. I think the young Russians, Ilya Kovalchuk in Atlanta and Alexander Ovechkin in Washington are extremely talented too and both could be the best player in the NHL soon. They can consistently score against anyone. Joe Thorton has had a great season. I am a huge fan of his. I hope he continues to do well next year.
Its not all about scoring, though guys. Best All-Around player. My vote goes for Sergei Zubov. An incredibly intelligent player who can score, can kill penalties, and can set up plays like no one else. There's my 0.02 Texan-Canadian cents.
Lemieux definitely, but he is no longer playing, so he doesn't count. Jagr, I feel, is the best for pure offence. Not as good all-around player as Forsberg.
Good point, but i'll add Scott Niedermayer to that descritption too. Underrated tallent, 3-time champion, olympic gold medalist, and I think he's the Captain now for the Ducks.
Sydney Crosby 100+ points for a team well below 500.................Banner Year and the next NHL ambassador and super star!!
Crosby has nothing on Ovechkin! To answer the question I like Forsberg, Thornton and Cheechu from SJ.
If i were building a team i would want Rick Nash. If he can stay healthy he could put up some big numbers. I wish the preds would try to get him, we lack a good power forward.
