I may need to have my Fcar detailed when it gets back from its service. If so, I will have the transport company take it straight there. I will need inside and out, a total job so who do you guys recommend ? I want the best.

He has a business and this is what he does full time. I have him come to my house about once a month to work on my 3 cars. He is very particular and does a wonderful job. Each time I am amazed how the car looks after he leaves. He does some amazing work in getting swirl marks out etc. If you go to the web site Detail Image, he writes for them and discusses his process etc. You won't be disappointed. Tell him Gary referred you. Let me know what you think after he is done.

OK, I would LOVE to try Ivan too, but he is booked 2 months in advance...while that speaks volumes for his work, I just need a darn detail before summer kicks in!

Anyone else BESIDES Ivan??? I find it hard to believe there is no one else in Chicagoland, if so, somebody looking for a line of work should take a cue!

Thanks for all the kind words guys, greatly appreciate it!

As I told Adam through email... There's only so much I can do myself and hiring a bunch of people is not in my business plan. I'm not looking to get rich quickly by knocking out a bunch of detail jobs then being out of business in a year :). My motto has always been quality over quantity and thankfully it's put me in the place where I am currently. Obviously it gets hard and a bit odd telling people that I can't work on their car for another 6-8 weeks, but at the same time I'd rather do that than have even one unhappy client by rushing my work.

I am currently training someone that should be at a high enough level of detailing within the next couple of months or so, meaning they will be able to do most of what I do and noticeably cut my time down. Eventually there will be a couple other properly trained assistants and the current 6 week wait time will be cut down to 2-3.

Also, it's unfortunate to say there's really no one else I can personally recommend around the Chicagoland area, because 99% of the detail places are a "best of the worse" type of situation, so I don't like to endorse the type of work unless it's up near my standards. There are a few local "weekend warrior" type detailers that I've heard do good work, but without seeing it myself it's hard to send a client there without any reservations. I'd be more than happy to send some of these guys' info via email or private message if someone's in a big rush, but I obviously can't be responsible for any of their work.

Long story short, Valenzo, I'd be happy to take a look at your car as soon as next week and set up a detail accordingly, but as I said above, I'm currently booked until mid-July so there's a bit of a wait time.

Did anyone ever get the story on Jason of Jason's Auto Spa? I used him and he was really good. I know we've had these type threads before and people had been trying to reach him. Now I see his website is gone as well. He really dropped off the radar fast.

I would love to get into detailing. It's one of the only relaxing things I get to do! I would love to get into it after I'm done working (if the state doesn't take my pension from me!).

There used to be a guy Mike something or other that had a small detail shop in Huntley. He did a few of my Porsche's and he did good work. He's not there anymore because I think he started to do much more then just detailing and unfortunately he ran into some credit trouble (I've heard). Doesn't do you much good right now, sorry!!!

Never got the full story but I did speak with him and he is not detailing anymore. He said on rare cases, very large and lengthy jobs only. No longer detailing like previously...I had used him in the past myself.

Ivan has me on his wait list...but he is so damn good no one ever cancels :)

I spoke with a former client of Jason's over winter, while he had his Corvette stored at our shop here, and he said that Jason hurt his back so he can only do a car or two here and there. I never met Jason and don't know why he's out of the detail business now, but that's the only solid piece of information I received about it.
