Who is The Stig? - Video Shows Him Without Helmet

This is a video from TV Limburg, who actually got a shot off The Stig while Top Gear was shooting at the circuit of Zolder without his helmet.

Does anybody know the driver?

Officially? 2 - black Stig (the original) and white Stig (current). Unofficially? Who knows.

But dang they all know how to drive a car! (Except for the poor 599 that went off the
track in the first-ever stig-in-the-tire-wall run)

Yeah, he blamed it on the car not having a rear wing when he slid off the track.
The car ate a tire and had some front end damage.

She doesn't. Top Gear filmed together with German series D Motor, which is hosted by Sabine and Tim Schrick, who isn't the stig.

The Stig was Perry Mccarthy and is now Ben Collins. Damon Hill dressed up as the Stig for one edition.

Correct. Also, IIRC, Alonso did the Renault F1 drive, the Toyota test driver did their F1 episode, and pretty sure that Kovalainen (sp?) did one F1 ride on the show, too.

Perry McCarthy was a promising British driver in the early and mid '90s. He did a few F1 tests. Drove with Audi's R8 program, too. He wrote a book titled Flat Out and Flat Broke. It's a reasonably entertaining read.

Ben Collins is in British Touring Cars, I believe.

Ben Collins races an Ascari in the FIA GT championship, the GT3 class for Team Damax. He's also raced for Ascari factory at Le Mans in LMP675 (I think) a few years back. A point of interest, back in 2000, my colleague met him at a meeting - he was Brand Manager for Scalextric as well as raving at Ascari - the Brits here will agree I'm sure, not a bad day job!
