Hamilton, closely followed by Vettel ............... put them in **** cars and they cry all day long (I may be taking the Mick ) Palmer is the worst .............. I think a lot of people here may have forgotten a driver from the past that ruined a LOT of cars before he came good ......... Gilles
Gotta go with Stroll, captain oblivious so far. Granted other driver's aren't giving him respect; but that lack of respect is so far deserved. You don't hang out around someone that can't race, you move them out of the way.
Yah but he isn't letting them push him around. Perez was lucky/clever about not taking damage there. Sainz won't try that again. Sainz will learn, let's see if Stroll does.
Gilles was always blindingly fast. Stroll isn't (so far), he's getting worked by a guy that was ready to retire. The story may be different at the end of the year, but 3 races into the season he's the worst current driver by a long shot. A lot of that may be that he's only 3 races into his career, but that wasn't the question.
You really shouldn't compare Stroll after 2 GP with Massa who has more than 10 years of F1. At least give the kid one year before judging him. I remember some drivers, older than Stroll, who came to the scene with fracas: Jody Schekter? Gilles Villeneuve? James Hunt? Andrea de Cesaris? Not saying that Lance Stroll is the new Messiah, but he may become a good mid-field driver once his apprenticeship is finished, and even maybe more.
Massa was a bit touchy early on as well and was put back in Sauber. Stroll might need to be in a different team like Sauber. They need the money as well!
First race Gilles was in he outqualified his experienced team mate who had a new model while he was driving last year car...then he was able to keep up with the front guys for all the race...i think Stroll is a bit far from that!!
Always better to make a really fast driver slower and a winner, than to try and make a slow driver faster. Gilles was very, very fast, just like Prost was ... and yeah they both destroyed a few cars, as did MS. Stroll is not destroying cars because he is so fast though, so your comparison is mute. Pete
Grosjean suffered from the same...he's a very quick driver but destroyed cars left right and center. He had a good talking to and presto...dialed it down a percentage or 2 and now is far more matured as a driver. Maldonado, also very fast but couldn't keep out of the barriers. making a slow driver go fast...I can't think of any of the top of my head. Can't buy talent...
So far, this season, he's the worst. I'm not judging his career a failure, but right now he's the worst driver in f1 by a pretty long shot. You can excuse it by saying he's only 3 races in, and I'd agree with you wholeheartedly, but that doesn't mean he's still not the worst driver currently in f1. He's slow and can't finish a race. At least Palmer can finish a race and Kvyat has some speed. As to comparing him to Massa - that's the indication of what the car can do. If he were getting to the limits of the car and crashing then it's a bit different.
Well said. As for Kimi, it's clear he's no longer what he once was and hasn't been for some time. He's 37 years old. Yeah his attitude is kind of annoying but it's just how he is. I don't want to replace him, at least not yet. He gets along good with Vettel, and Vettel is the clear #1. Ferrari works best with a clear #1. Kimi is a capable driver and I wouldn't call a 4th, 5th and 4th that bad considering he has had car issues in 2 of the races. He is a quality #2 driver that can still have his "on days" and do great. Otherwise he is an experienced, quality point scorer. He did great last year and I would be fine with him staying on for a couple more years while Grosjean matures in the Haas and then picking him up. Ferrari's drivers are fine folks. Enjoy these wins.
Maldonado gets a lot of **** but it's pretty clear he was a fast driver. His win in Spain 2012 was incredibly impressive.
True. And bringing the fact that 2017 Felipe is not the same Felipe of 2009. And is still getting a good result from the FW40...(as long it isn't wet )
I think it's sad we have to even have a discussion like this. There are a lot of GOOD drivers on BAD teams, and YOUNG drivers on BAD or UNDERFINANCED teams that simply are not getting the experience.
LOL! There are also some bad drivers who just don't have any ability to get the most out of their cars like good drivers can. Michael Schumacher started in an underfunded backmarker team. How did that work out for him?
