Let's quantify who misses the restoration thread of Dino #04946, please tell us how you feel. All results public, comments encouraged. The negative posts seem to have had a greater influence on the outcome and perhaps these should not have overwhelmed the decision making process? Original thread had been started and the author pulled it after comments were made: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=239255&page=24
I miss it too. I'll have to step it up on my own restoration to make up for it. Jon's approach has caused me to look at my own organization. I really liked his approach and am going to adopt his catalog method and also start taking a lot more pictures.
I certainly do. The wealth of details about the restoration process was superior to anything I have seen before. The documentation was meticulous. The photos, in particular, were breathtaking in their clarity and resolution. It was simply: The Best.
i am in the middle of restoring my Dino after taking it to bits- his pictures and advice were huge. I miss it a lot.
I don't have a Dino, but it's my favorite Ferrari. In fact, it's the only car I don't have (or have never had) that I would really, really want. I think it's the one car I could be happy with for the rest of my life! I miss the thread a lot, used to check in all the time. That being said, I don't really blame Jon for bailing. Who needs to put up with such nonsense? I know it was driven almost entirely by only one person (almost), but (1) who needs to put up with cr@p like that from even one person, and (2) it IMO wasn't moderated particularly well. So, I don't blame him for the sayonara. Jon, go enjoy your dinos in peace and privacy with your son and friends!
Yup me too. Should not have been allowed to get that far.. the post that started it should have been singled out as an example of well rudeness and pulled. You can pull this or I'll retract it if it is considered rude or improper.
You know, the thread with the back 1/3 of the Dino sawed off, and the guy using tin snips and rubber bands to repair his gas tanks while he is sitting on the dirt floor staring up at his poster of Benny Hill wearing a dress with coral pink lipstick smeared all over his lips looking for all the world like the cover of the English Rose album by the original Fleetwood Mac lineup with "Albatross" playing on his Lucas sourced hi-fi fading (and smoking and leaking oil) in and out of the background. I mean, that cat is happening - restoring his clapped out Dino for only £49.00 TOTAL. Yeah, that's the thread that I really want to see featured on FCHAT. That would be a quality feature that Rob could really be proud of. Man, if only that thread was restored to its full glory, with those great hi-definition pixilated phull colouric (or may be I mean high-colonic) fotografs. Man oh man, (in the middle of France, the odds were against us, but we still took a chance) [apologies to The Persuasions], that should really bring sponsors to FCHAT!!! Rude or improper - what the heck? Compare this to the personal attacks that were piled up on OMGJON, and the apparent fact that Rob let it fester to the point that OF ALL PEOPLE, OMGJON took a timeout? This posting is just so much minor dross, a mere filament of lint on the Queen's mustache. Time out for me? Just refund my Rossa money. In any event, I don't really care anymore, especially the way this joint seems to me is starting to stink. Heck, I'd almost rather see 500 posts by La Scuderia Rossa about how great his NOS reproduction tool rolls and rebuilt pantyhose are.
As a Dino owner I appriciate all the information I can get. Don't let a couple of dips ruin a good thing. gs
At least we are not racist........i see in your profile you have an Austin Healy BN6......any idea where that was built? Maybe Benny Hill drove one in his day!
i dismiss the comments of the very few indicating that if you have seen one dino restoration, you have seen them all. nonsense! each vintage ferrari restoration is a bit like an archaeological dig...while similar may have been conducted, no two are the same! add to that our ability to learn of talented restoration assets such as the paint and body man jon chose. enlightening our community of this talent alone is huge to me! last comment: I had lunch with my father today and told him of this thread. he said it is not too late for us to do a project together just like jon and his son have done. i have had a gleam in my eye since our lunch and i am certain he is equally excited of the prospect. i suspect jon and his son will always cherish these restoration projects. in addition to the value the thread brings us on process and attention to detail...it really punctuates the importance of the journey of two car guys that happen to be father and son! very best, pcb
I agree entirely pcb it is something i am sure they will both cherish the experience. Especially father teaching son, or could it be the other way around (BTW thats a joke to you yanks as sometimes you dont see british humour) But i doubt Jon stopped working with his son on the resto because of a few words. Now as for the satirical comments, i am more than happy to continue the banter by pm's or is it just that some want attention on the forum. It is a rather childish behavoiur really, surely most of you would have left that sort of attitude in the school playground. It can be conducted privately for those that think they have an axe to grind with me. I've emptied my pm box just in case some have the balls to contact me. Tony
How much longer is this going to drag on. I used to like this site, but now its becoming painful to read Anyone still interested in Dino,s
Lemme see. This would be thread number 5, or is it 6, discussing the terrible state of affairs here over the "great insult" and resulting "great escape." Jon has re-opened his thread, indicates he wants to get back to the business of having fun and posting about his car but we STILL have to dredge this **** up? If the OP had apologized to Jon and he had accepted that apology, would that be enough for the rest of you to just drop it? Yuu guys are the Jaws of this sub forum. Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the virtual water... DM
Dave. As i have a great deal of respect for you i will cease the jibes....Just did not like the nasty tone of dinogts's post above.......particularly his reason for editing. Graham.
OK, Here is the line where we stop beating this poor, dead horse! Please, NO MORE! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree. Let's stop, drop the subject, and enjoy. Just a hiccup, and now back to business. With best regards from sunny Manila, Andy
Racist? Was there a part of my post that was racist? If there was anything that could have been taken as even remotely racist, then I retract that immediately. Temporarily xenophobic? Maybe, but not now. A little extra spoonful of sarcasm? Likely guilty of that. My BN6 was built in a 9x15 foot shed in Abingdon. With respect to dear old Benny Hill, I just hope to God Mr. Hill didn't drive one into a wall (and I AM a fan of both BH AND Austin-HealEys). Donald Healey died just a few years before I was fortunate enough to have met Brian (Bic) Healey (son), Geoffrey Healey (son), Margot Healey (daughter-in-law), Roger Menadue (Director of Healey's Experimental and Competitions Department), and Gerry Coker (designer/stylist of the Austin-Healey, and interestingly, designer of Ford's 3-way station wagon tailgate). Back to all things Dino!
And a very interesting wish list dinogts - a 2CV, Traction Avant, Jag MkII 3.8, Alpine Renault A110! My best friend had an early AH with louvers in the hood (bonnet) in the late 60s and sold it before he learned what it was! We are desperately trying to trace it. Yes, let's start where we left off and back to Dinos! Andy
