I was just trying to answer the question. When someone says "crotch rocket", it is usually not speaking fondly of the bike. If you had asked what a sport bike was, I would not have responded like that. Since crotch rocket was used, I thought it was a proper, even humorous, answer. I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes, I was just answering the way I felt. Personally I don't like bikes that sound the way a sport bike does. I prefer vehicles with a loud, rumbling, obnoxious sound (think American muscle).

Sorry if I didn't exactly think the post through, I was merely expressing my opinion.

I know of a couple of "crotch rocket" owners who refer to their own bikes that way, with a sense of affection!!

Has anyone else noticed that it is rarely "regular" people, but usually the homeless, or street people that will come up and ask you questions? I always try to be pleasant, not rude...

    Most people don't ask.

I'm not sure if it is the Ferrari or the "Ask me how I beat Ebola" shirt that I wear in public.

Who mostly looks at my Ferraris?

    Why I do of course!

    Why you ask?

Because I am a typical idiot pompus self centered egotistical prick Ferrari owner, even if I have a little cheap V8 F-car I still feel this way about me and my Ferrari, and what a team we make together. I bought them because I have a serious inferiority complex and a Ferrari has magnified it further and am moving on to a Lambo next to be honest.

Why am I an idiot you say?

I can't help it, I admit it, I'll spend $5000 on a Dino toolkit and pouch to win a contest to prove my car is better than the rest, which I know it is of course but the stupid biased judges sometimes can't see it, so instead of giving the money to a charity that could actually help something or someone I spend it on something really stupid but so what it's my money you know and I do what makes me happy!

Back to me though, my favorite subject, I love to look at myself in the rearview mirror every chance I get while driving to practice my looks and expressions and just smile while checking my teeth, hair, and just need to say "hi" to myself because I am soo great! I know all the routes with buildings that have mirrors on the outside of them so I can drive by back and forth slowly to check myself out again.

What can I say it's just great to be me!

    Thanks for asking!

In Laramie, because this is a little college town of 26,000, the demographics are biased. My 550 is famous. There's no question about it.
    "A Ferrari in Wyoming!"
Since yesterday, when I re-started my annual insurance and "officially" brought the car out of storage, I'm fresh in who's been "looking":
They're mostly men, over 25 who are high-up in their pickup trucks and see it coming before men in cars.
EVERY male student of the WyoTech automotive school who's got his head on straight-- instead of looking for a race with another of the students in his (whatever) car.
A lot of women over 25 because the yellow 550 is just so beautiful to look at.
An entire squad of full combat dressed ROTC with M-16s at the university yesterday practically came to attention.
The college girls like the car but hate the man, old enough to be their father, who gets out of it--that is, except for the cute, smiling girl in her Mustang who pulled out of WalMart in front of me, today. When she saw what was coming up from behind, pulled over a lane and smiled as I waved a "thank you" and passed. My challenge this summer is to be a happy, smiling, waving, nodding, appreciative Ferrari owner and acknowledge the waves and thumbs up... AND keep my eyes on the road! Today, a priest and I was cruising Grand Ave after an iced tea...and just ahead of us, four cars were delayed in their sudden stop. The 550 came to a complete stop in a couple car lengths and I didn't rear end the pack! And boy, when I could get around that mess, it freed up and at the head was a car full of teens who suddenly started accelerating. I nailed them in a quarter block. I've got to watch it! After six months of not driving the car, I've forgotten how powerful it is! I don't want the entire town to see me coming and (from having seen what the car can do) think, "Oh, there's that showoff prick again!" Because eventually, one of those "victims" is going to be an off-duty policeman who's going to start bad mouthing my driving to others...and they're letting me slide now for sure! Yesterday, minutes after I got the insurance, I came down the interstate above the speed limit and I'm pretty sure the WHP who saw it didn't bother to deal with me (or maybe the radar return on the semis I was passing just overwhelmed his radar-- but his eyes could see I wasn't "doing 80") This past year I rented a townhouse to a WHP family and gave them a 17% discount on their rent. That better count for something! Today, the mailman asked me if it was a Ford (last year a husband told his wife, "It's the new Mustang") and the mailman guessed it was a hundred grand new. I told him I bought it used, but that it was $205,000 new. That floored him. I told the priest what it really cost and how much, per mile to drive ($1). I showed him what it's like to do corners at twice a normal car's capacity. We were near God in those moments! I'm so lucky to have the car and I have to act like it ALL the time. http://www.LaserRadio.com/550.html

To be honest, I do not notice the "cheap" ferraris. I mean I think they are nice, and won't mind having a 328QV or something, but a Mondial is just not my idea of a ferrari. Except for Testa,GTO and F-40, nothing from the 80's.

Especially here is Switzerland, there are so many nice cars, you really have to be driving something exceptional (like a XJ220 I saw last week) to get any attention around here (and that's in a village).

You know, I totally identify with your attitude. I'm always looking at my car; polishing it or whatever. While I don't spend the money you do on toolkits, I would if I could! I also know all other toy car owners feel like we do about our cars and I would never say mine is "better" than theirs. While I'd trade mine for a Boxer, I can honestly say I like my Lotus better than a 308 (even though I'm a huge 308 fan; I'd take both cars but not trade). Still, I was mad I didn't win the few shows I've entered! LOL What's WRONG with those morons????

I hope Richard Pietruska doesn't mind my borrowing one of his images. As a guy over 50, in a similar car, I sometimes imagine this is me (or as I might look in about 20 years!).

    Heh heh.

A homeless guy thought that my 1988 $4000 Alfa Romeo Spider was a $60k car. His mouth fell open on hearing its real worth.

Cars, bikes, and in my case even biceps, pecs and glutes appear to be mainly noted by young boys (admiringly, wannabe) and older men (mix of admiringly/jealously). And older black ladies seem to appreciate the latter item ;)

I dunno, probably people I share the road with. I need to buy another old Volvo 240 for first dates, I really avoid attention... don't have amodern F-car atm, but I'm about this close to buying that silver 99 550 on eBay, it should make a perfect new driver for me.

Normal sane people notice the 308. I find that many are serious gearheads that know their stuff or who have contemplated getting a 308/328/348/Mondial/365 themselves. The age varies from preteen to senior citizens.

I'd have to agree /w/ Darth's philosophy tho.
