I just pulled out the complete stereo system out of my 512TR.
(after market amps drive me crazy)
Mine took to much space in the trunk and the wiring was questioable at best in my book.
Now there is a leather covered radio delete plate instead of the head unit.
    12 cylinder sound is unbeatable!

What do other Ferrari Owners think?

    Let's take a poll!

My RHD 365 Boxer has its original 8-track system. I would never remove it, it is noted on the original delivery note of the Ferrari factory. I have never played yet it but I've managed to source some 8-track tapes and I plan to try it out soon.

My 330GTC has a period radio. It has never been turned on, even during an 11 hour drive.

My 550 Maranello has a nice HDD based stereo. I use it all the time.

I have to admit I do like the factory radio in my 575 and sometimes wish it would have a navigation function also.
But when buying a car I usually stay away from cars with excessive after market systems.

In my 512TR is a very nice hifi system ... but I never use it ...

I will leave it in because otherwise I will have an empty place for the radio :) ...

For my purposes, I want to have an integrated infotainment system in my 550, as I'd like to have access to some of the OBDII parameters that are available from the engine, as well as having a nav system, plus my music library stored on a solid state HD, etc.

But I don't want to have to do this with several clunky boxes, different interfaces, etc. One motorised touch screen, with the same interface for all, and it would disappear when not needed.

Scott @ LaJolla Audio has done some nice integration work along these lines, but the manufacturers aren't quite there yet with the merger of car audio with information retrieval. The iPad and its cousins should help this merger.

I did the same thing, bought a 512tr last year the PO had put 10,000.00 into a stereo
system in 1995(I have the receipt). It's on a shelf in the garage. The only problem I had was I needed to make a new ECU cover plate because he had lost the original piece.

When I re-did my dash/instrument pod on my BB, I actually covered over the stereo void for that "extra clean" look... Not exactly stock, but I can open the void at any time should I wish to return back to original and/or install a stereo. I do have a period cassette player I could put in, but would rather leave it the way it is.

    Cheers,

    Sam

I have a stereo on my TR but always forget to turn it on because of the chorus of mechanical and exhaust sounds.

I would like to see some pictures of aftermarket stereo systems and/or navigation systems in a 512TR or 575M.

depends on the Ferrari - i use it frequently in my tubi-equipped 456 MGT, never use it in my very loud 348 Spider and the 308 GT4 does not have one.

depends on the car. It's on sometimes in the 599 HGTE, it's off always in the CS.
