Yes, Aston Martin was recently sold by Ford to Prodrive (David Richards). There is no mention of Infiniti or Scion.
Actually to a group of Kuwaitis, assembled by a Texas investment banker. Richards is in on the deal, but I wouldn't say he bought AM!
I'm glad he's there though - I want to see more sporty models, especially an updated Vantage that gives more bang for the buck (I think the car is wonderful but priced 15-20% too high). Those potential mid-engine sports car renderings from Autoweek made me swoon with delight. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's missing a few companies. It would be great to see a revised and up to date one. Thanks for posting though, very interesting.
Ford selling Aston Martin could just be a very good thing for the company. I would also like to see them come out with a sport centered super exotic of some sort.
I doubt it, the Ford GT - while an awesome car - kind of bowed out quietly. Jaguar should become to Ford what Lexus is to Toyota, their prime upscale brand. But they have Lincoln, Volvo and Land Rover in the way. The Japanese companies have their brand lines worked out so much more effectively than the American companies - I would slash Ford down to 3-4 distinct brands, starting with eliminating Mercury and starting to integrate Lincoln... aside from Lincoln SUV's, it's pretty much a fleet car company for limo and cab companies.
Also missing is that Porsche owns a bit of VW. Lotus is (was for sale) but the Proton group...someone not mentioned... MG/Rover are strongly linked/owned by a Chinese firm, last i checked. Also, I am pretty sure Renault has bought a notable share of the GM group. Also lets not forget the Scion Toyotas.
I'm pretty sure Mercedes (Daimler Chrysler of course) owns part of McLaren. I'm thinking about 40% or thereabouts. McLaren Mercedes SLR is made in the McLaren factory. The other 60% either belongs entirely to Ron Dennis or part of that is split with the Tag owner, Ojjeh.
IMO Ford should dump Lincoln....and concentrate on manufacturing small-mid size cars fuel efficient cars (like Honda). American auto manufacturers simply CANNOT be profitable trying to make a "luxury marque" (Lincoln) of decent quality to compete with the likes of the Japanese. Oldsmobile, Buick...etc who have already dissolved into nothing because competing against Lexus and Acura is near impossible. It seems there is room for only 1 American luxury brand, Cadillac, who are still miraculously in business.
