Who remembers this poster...?

Unbeknown to me at the time, the Pantera was driven by Andrew Miedecke AKA "Mad Andrew Miedecke" who was a professional race driver of some note. The Pantera wasn't standard either, underneath the tatty body shell it packed a drivetrain, suspension and brakes out of his Group C racer. So needless to say I didn't stand a chance
Andrew went on to win the Targa outright the following year in a 944 Cup Car.

Yes there is room for "27" on the front bar. The stripe was sized around the dimensions of the number plate and fits perfectly.

I do like the irony of having Ferraris famous number 27 on a McLaren

The 355 is a very girlie since it's major service, but changes to a nasty beast when you really push the go fast pedal ......... not sure I like the new girlie feeling

That was a guy called Dr Massini who was in charge of factory tourist deliveries at the time.

My experience has been entirely different, I've found my GTB to be perfectly reliable and quite useable - it starts easily, never overheats, brakes are good, its drives well , the air conditioning works, windows are not slow etc. There's nothing complex on the car, it's entirly mechanical and quite easy to maintain and fix. Parts are relatively cheap and available. I could hop in it now and drive to Adelaide/ Brisbane/Melbourne and I'm confident it would get there without missing a beat.


I agree from a useability perspective the GTB ergonomics and features reflect the 70's; no power steering, no ABS, the a/c is weak, wipers could be better, no reversing camera, the cabin is noisier than modern cars and the original stereo doesn't have bluetooth / handsfeee/ etc..

Well it is a lot quieter on the road now since Sal in Sydney serviced it and it is VERY tractable at idle.

Plus the boys on the Gold Coast fixed the lumpy idle by replacing the throttle position sensor .

You need to drive it the next time I bring it to Melbourne to see the dramatic change

I think the car is just happy to have gotten rid of the last owner

I'm much the same and life is a series of "projects" in all aspects of life. Having done the same "bread and butter" job in the same 4 walls for 35yrs in my professional life, it keeps me (relatively) sane and interested in working. Having said that, I find OHOS incredibly frustrating as in Ferrari circles at least, most people you come across are crooks/inept/full of **** and it can be difficult to find honest people who have the knowledge to work on 40+ year old Italian POS.
Parts availability is also frustrating, the cars are hard and time consuming to work on and the resultant bills are eye watering. There is a lot to be said for buying a new exotic with years of warranty and free annual servicing; but the downside of course is massive depreciation.
You jump in a new supercar and can be pretty sure it won't break down and leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. I'm far too old and cranky to view standing on the side of the road for hours as "part of the adventure" of exotic ownership.

 

I should have qualified my previous statement by saying I’m also enjoying sorting out the 928 because I’m not dealing with mechanics

Thanks it is a special MSO option, the colour is called Lantana Purple. Awesome colour, depending on the light it looks anything from a deep blue to full on purple.
