Remember the FIA is about an awful lot more than F1 so previous experience in F1 isn't necessarily a prerequisite for the job.

 

Tony Blair? Heard he was kind of out of a job.

Seriously, I cannot see either Todt or Dennis - both too close to a team in the sport too recently. Same would be true of Paul Stoddart, who clearly still has a revenge axe to grind. (if he had been with a "real" team)

Sir Jackie Stewart? Certainly a valid candidate - & surely we have forgotton that Team Tartan Plaid. My only problem with him is the question if he is still on "top of the game" enough to handle the challenges.

Bernie and Max have left us the Exxon Valdez of potty-messes to clean up after these past 1.5 seasons.

 

Not Todt. No matter what his decision, it will reflect on Ferrari. He might be too harsh to show no favoritism, he might be too lenient.

Best it be someone removed from any recent involvement in the sport to also eliminate any accusation of favoritism.

Best it be a successful businessman, with a support committee of former drivers and owners. Someone like a Robert Louis-Dreyfus, he saved Satchi & Satchi and then brought Adidas out from the grave into profit. That support committee could include Todt, a retired Ron Dennis, Stewart, Lauda, Peter Sauber, Eddie Jordan, Nigel Mansell, etc. But the supremo, final "decider", should not be from F1.

 

I have mentioned Lauda several times here, and never saw this name get any traction (while Stewart does have his following). I think he would be a valid choice for the job itself.

OK, how about another respected English sportsman & businessman - Richard Branson?

 

I like that, Richard Branson. That is a great suggestion!

 

Bring some fun & fashion mystique back to the sport, say I!!! Probably the grid girls would benefit from a good sprucing up, too.

 

This could be an oportunity to reshape FIA's structure. Why not have a Board with a rotating Chairman among the members to avoid having in the future an ego centric prick like Mosley for years and years?

I'd like to see a diverse board with some of the names mentioned with F1 exprience and may be others without F1 experience to bring in new and fresh ideas.

 

My suggestion: David Richards - he has got lots of experience with managing rally and road racing teams. He also has manufacturer experience (Aston Martin). I think he would be great.

 

It is in interesting idea (the diverse board, and term limits for the chairman). Also interesting - pick someone who has proven business, sports, and marketing ability and not just an insider in this particular sport.

Of course, you know what they used to say about Charles Lindbergh and committees...

I hear you.... committees can be disfunctional if the group is not cohesive but I just don't like the fact of an FIA supremo like Mosley or even Balestre for that matter.

The idea of having an independent group of people making decisions is probably not in the interest of Bernie. He will like to see someone who will play along.. pretty much like good ol' Max.

 

So now I guess we could legitimately ask - "Does Max take down Bernie along with him"? I could see that happening if there should be an attempt to clone a new Max, and the rabble rises against it.

 

Good idea! Perhaps she should submit the video first as part of her application?

Not Jean Todt. In 10 years maybe, but he's still to close to Ferrari. I'd love to see him do the job, but it would only lead to trouble.

 

I think the best person for the job is there already ... Marco Piciccini... he used to be a Ferrari guy, and I think he is on the board... but has been removed for some time from day to day stuff...

I think you need a manufacturer guiding the ship, someone who is close to the sport, but has the business sense needed.

Stewart would be a good idea, but I think at his age he would not go there. Dave Richards - like that idea, as well as some one like Prince Albert....

Perhaps Damon Hill; he understands the sport from the drivers' and teams' standpoint yet seems to understand the economics and PR side very well.

If we really want to have fun, Eddie Irvine. He's no dummie and he'd always be surrounded by an entourage of hot chicks.
