Aside from the public library, if your library has a "friends" or "boosters" organization, they probably collect books and do regular book sales. I usually pick up several grocery bags full for a few bucks a bag.

the only reason you have seen them is because im borrowing them from you. don't worry, ill give them back soon. you are right about the cat in the hat being a metaphor for discrimination in society

Well, upside is, somebody'll pick up on the joy of reading a few books you gained an insight or two-thousand from.

What was library chiefly comprised of? Classics?

I've got 400 or so hardbound classics in proper storage.

But, you can't have them. Sorry.

Anyhoo, reading is good - 's how I learnt me many werds.

When you grow up surrounded by books, they become part of your essence - something you can depend on, as it will always be there, so, Man, that must be causing some psychic pain of sorts. Seriously. Glad my ex-wife didn't get 'em. Hell, she should be glad she didn't get 'em - 'cause she'd be dead meat.

Different issue :). Never too soon to speak to your family about the things of value to you. I left home many years ago and my parents went through a "simplification" phase and got rid of lots of stuff I always thought I'd have a chance to say "wait, I'll take that". Next time I visited, it was too late.

I give most of the books I buy to charity. I would rather give someone else the opportunity to read them, then leave it rotting on my shelf. I can go get it again if I really want too, and as mentioned, libraries have many books.

Now instead of having a study full of books you've never read or will read you can create a Ferrari room.

A couple of years ago my mother wanted to toss out some old books that had some weather damage from sitting in the garage. I gathered over a 100 or so & took them to a local book trader. One of the books that was damaged was a first edition of The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. I never felt so ill when I was told what that first edition would have brought if it was mint.

    :(
