I'm 46. I think about death all the time. Will I have a stroke today? Will I get hit by a dump truck? Am I getting more ripe for a good geart attack? I'm not sure I would have a tough time with death. My thinking is that I have lived in a great country, never went to bed hungry and have probably lived more in my life than most live in two.

    And you?

i dont think about myself dying, i know it will happen and im not worried abut it happening, but i think about people close to me dying, how such great lives were lost so young, how i would get by. i also think that i only live once, ill hopefully get 50 more years and make it to around 70. but if i will live to 70, im 27-28ish% of the way done with my life(im 17 now). what more do i have to accomplish? theres a good quote from rise against that says "when i die, will they remember not what i did but what i havent done" and i think of that a lot.

whenever i see hispanic or foreign labor workers over here (i live in san diego, about 40 miles north of the border so i see them a lot) i often wonder isnt there more to life than just this? were they 'cheated' of a life because they lived the first part of their life in poverty and sadness and the second part always hiding and always working just to make sure they could have a dinner that night? they probably never got to experience many of the things that i have in my 17 years here, let alone what many others have.

hopefully some of this makes sense.

I was a particularily morbid kid.. it was probably one of my favorite subjects to sit around and ponder- yeah, I should've really been outside playing or something. :)

That being said, I don't really think about it all that much anymore. It happens to all of us, I don't fear it, and I try to pack as much 'fun' into my short time as I can. Oddly enough, I'm kinda devoid of ego (big on truth however) and don't really expect that my "special soul" will continue on for eternity. Hell, I'm not even sure if I should pass my somewhat questionable genes onto another generation.

Death isn't worth thinking about- I'd rather focus on my goals and do my best to make them happen. For me, "Death" is defined as a long-term career to nowhere, an unhappy home life or an unwillingness to learn something new.

Death is just another card that is dealt. It does not scare me, nor does it make me sad. The only worry i could have is how it affects my closest loved ones.

Ive been around death many times, with friends and family passing away as i grew up. Im not 100% familiar with it, and i never will be. I know that mouring is quite possibly the worst feeling one could feel, but i think it mainly depends on who you are mourning, and what cirumstances in which they pass.
    But there is one unknown.

I dont want to feel the grief of my wife, or one my children passing away. That is a feeling of which i never want to experience.

Long story short, I was almost murdered once, but I survived, so I don't really worry about death anymore. I realize that everyday past that point is a good day because I really am lucky to be alive at all.

Being a cancer survivor I think about death often. However my thoughts are more about who will love my small children or take care of my wife if I was to relapse. Life is short and I have lived a full life already. But once children are born they become the main focus.

My intent is to die in my sleep, at least 100 years of age, and not in a nursing home where I rely on another's care, especially my family's. I do not want them to see me unless I'm in good shape. I'll take a pill before I put them through the burden of caring for me.

I think the best you can do is to acknowledge death's inevitability and to live your life to the fullest. That may sound like cheese but it's the truth. Be optimistic, appreciate, prepare and seize life's opportunities. Work hard. Play hard. It will all work out in the end.

Wise words, Dane... i think a lot of people struggle with realizing their own mortality, but it IS inevitable... i would assume you, unfortunately, know more about this than most...

It's always hard on the fams though, especially if they were not certain of where there loved ones will spend eternity. It really starts to bring it home to christians who lose a loved one, you start questioning, "Did I do my part to share my faith with them, are they in heaven because of what I said, or are they in hell because of what I didn't say".

Why would anyone want to die in their sleep? It's the last (and fairly profound) thing you will ever do, and you'd want to miss it?

Now, I'm not into suffering but if you could transend the panic feeling, it would be quite an experience.
