I have heard 300+ cars used, so it's not rare. BJ has to be the largest event for dumb ass hillbillies ever invented. Anyone who buys a car from these guys deserves it.
It is also a place where "dreams come true" sometimes. Last night they sold an "Eleanor" clone that had been built for about $85K, the builder/seller hoped to get $100K, B-J estimated it would go for $60K and the hammer went down for $220K. Only in America!
I was on the block when GL1 went across.. It only sold for $110,000 which seems super low to me considering it is the original General Lee. The owners were really nice and I got a chance to sit in it which was too cool! I expected it to go for much more for many of the reasons previously stated.
The original general lee sold for only $110k???? Sign of the times for BJ? Seems like bidders would have gone crazy for something like this.

Wrong room. Put that next to a Bond car, a Star Ship Enterprise model, and Judy Garland's ruby slippers at a Bonhams Movie Prop auction and it would have done quite a bit better.
BJ is big on muscle cars and that type of thing. I would think this would have been a perfect venue, and there were plenty of cars going for huge money.
The prices at B-J were strong this year, plenty of stupid money flying around. With the hundreds of "General Lee" clones out there, this car just simply isn't special anymore. $110K is still a handsome price.
It looks like pro golfer Bubba Watson made the winning bid. http://www.golfchannel.com/news/golftalkcentral/bubba-watson-buys-iconic-tv-car/?cid=twitter_A_gc_GENERALLEEWATSON_012212
