I'll be driving up for the Art of Ferrari at the end of the month from North Carolina in my 360 Spider F1...just wondering if many of you guys plan to attend?

I haven't attended the event before but know that Leon Bourdage did a fantastic job of hosting the FCA National Meet last year so I wanna come check out his annual event.

Hoping there'll be a great turnout!

    Marc,

I was there last year for the Annual Meet, and have been to the "Art of Ferrari" events in the prior years on Labor Day weekend. I always go up for the FCA track event at Watkins Glen, which is the real heart of the weekend. It really is a great event. This year, there is a reception and "movie night" on Thursday, the car show in Corning on Friday night, and a dinner/reception on Saturday night at the Wings of Eagles flight center and museum in Elmira. It is going to be a fun weekend.

I'm going primarily for the track, so I'm taking my Corvette, not my old 308. The Glen is a high horsepower track, and while I drove the 308 there last year as part of the Annual Meet (it was Ferraris only last year), this year, I'm back to the Vette.

    Hope to see you there.

    Steve

I will also be there. Last year was the first year I went and I got some of the best pictures I have ever taken at an event. The format seems a bit different this time but I dont expect anything less car wise this year. Should be nice and cool being in the evening as well. I am really looking fwd to this one :)

It should be smaller than last year...last year was the FCA national annual meet (taking the place of this AoF annual event) so people were coming from as far away as California and Washington. I think there were 250 or so cars between the track and the Corning activities. I haven't been to the Art of Ferrari before (just the national meet last year) and I'd probably expect more like 100 cars, give or take.

Regardless, I'm sure it'll be great.

I was thinking that after I wrote that...we'll at any rate even if it were 5 cars..its still 5 Ferraris..worth the drive for me. I am going to be taking allot of pictures, let me know if your interested in a CD.

There should be well over 100 cars there this year. This is a major event for the Empire State Region, Penn-Jersey Region and New England Region. The Friday night car show in town will be great, but the real action is at the track Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

By the way, HPDE collision insurance is now available for FCA track events. If you are taking your car out on the track and are concerned about potential damage loss, check out the HPDE insurance through the link on the Empire State Region website (www.empirestateregion.com). Click on the "events" page and scroll to the bottom for the link. The Watkins Glen event will be added to the insurance company's website early next week so coverage can be purchased, but in the meantime, you can get a free quote on pricing.

Just wondering, does anyone know if you actually have to own an F-car to get in to the track portion of this event? I remember trying one year and they refused me at the gate :-(. Not talking about running, just being in the pits would make my day.

IIRC, if you are not a track event participant, or entering with a participant, they have a list of people who are invited "guests". If you're not on the list, they won't let you in. This is not a public event, not open to the public. There is a real concern at these track events about safety, including spectators in the pits, so access is strictly limited.

Hmm, yeah thats what I was afraid of. Certainly makes sense from a safety perspective not to have a the public involved. Guess the next logical question would be does anyone have an open guest spot? I will be able to provide some great shots of the cars on the track :)

Ithink guest list was finalized on the 18th, Do guest passes have names on them? If they do then they probably can't substitute people.

No guest passes. The guards at the entrance to the Glen have a guest list. If your name ain't on it, no get in. At least that's how it's supposed to work.
