Toil is constantly rude to people. I remember last year when he had 30 or so posts to his name he accused me of certain things in a rude matter (and the rest is well documented). I'm urging you guys to reverse the ban on Ian and Maulaf.
We just had a big discussion about not trading insults and Maulaf did it anyway: immediately after and in the same thread. How could I not have noticed it or done anything other than apply a ban? Pointing fingers after the fact saying "toil's worse!" or "toil started it!" isn't going to be effective. It's perfectly simple: if toil posts something inappropriate then people should report it without making inappropriate comments themselves and it will be an easy and clean situation for an attending moderator. Responses like: "You're a(n) idiot/liar/etc." are not permitted and while I've seen that from many of toil's detractors I've seen very little of it from him. If the F1 section continues to be degraded by ad hominem attacks then the mod team will, with dismay, continue to apply the necessary warnings and bans. Everyone gets the same rules, that's fair. The bans of Ian and Maulaf will not be reversed. All the best, Andrew.
Not picking a fight here, but "you are a liar" is considered an attack? I get calling him an ignorant fool, but that seemed a little over the top. He should've at least shown sources to back up his argument.
Andrew the Cat Herder. On a mission to tame the wild, wild web. Calling someone a liar may be unpleasant but its more of an opinion/fact than a slur.
I missed most of the drama, but I think calling someone a fool, ignorant, or liar are hardly an attack. Now calling someone stupid, a**hole, etc.. or making threats, that's different.
It was a characterization of toil the man, and an unsubstantiated and rude one at that, rather than a rebuttal of toil's point. He could have politely disagreed and, as you said, provided sources (quotes/links) to support his position. I trust that this as now been sufficiently discussed, as it's supposed to be a thread about F1 drivers rather than toil vs. the world. All the best, Andrew.
Andrew I don't post often and am sorry to put you in a difficult position but : Is that any better than what the banned members said ? That was not even a subtle personal insult. But no ban for him ? Liar is banned but illiterate is not ? ^^^^Then inflaming emotions with posts like this ...... Our other resident Hamilton fanboy, Kraftwerk, is nothing but polite, courteous, well informed, has a sense of humour, and has this forum's respect. Whilst Ian and Maulaf should have been smart enough to not have bothered posting on a Lewis vs Vettel thread started by Toil, I wonder if any of their comments were more personal than toil calling someone illiterate. In all fairness, Toil deserves a ban as well by this logic. Again, apologies for bringing this up. Best, Sammy
Lol well if I deserve a ban then so does Pedro as I was just ️replying to his insults. In fact I could probably find 5 or more people who have insulted me this week who deserve a ban. Since I was defending myself that makes me less blameworthy. But attacks out of the blue are different and more malicious. Therefore I don't deserve a ban
you deserve a ban if words like illiterate, ignorant, fool, liar, being used are a basis for banning members. I agree with Sammy. In fact, Texaswhatever should get one too, he insinuated I was retarded in a post, when he was the one that was wrong. Of course, I'm being sarcastic. These words shouldn't be reasons for a ban.
I think the conceptual distinction is that if you insult someone out of the blue for no reason then it is not okay. But If you are in an ongoing discussion with someone getting a little heated is more permissible (at least there's more latitude given in those scenarios). Yea I pointed out that Pedro couldn't spell after he had called me an idiot/ignorant/polluter of the forum and whatever else. But tbh I don't want anyone being banned either. It doesn't offend me. Some dude literally wrote out a list of insults about me the other day but I never reported it because I don't care. Would've been a clear ban for him for awhile.
There is a HUGE difference between a direct insult (banworthy) and an indirect one: If I say "all Hamilton fans are idiots" right after for instance a post from Toil praising Lewis, then that is ok, because it is an indirect comment. If I say "User_X is an idiot", then I get banned. The point being that one can freely express their opinion about things/fans at large, but NEVER against an individual FChatter. So it is not so much about what the word is (liar, *****, idiot etc) but rather how directly it is used. Also in defense of all the mods (and I'm speaking from experience here, believe me): It is INSANELY difficult to do the right thing when there are two/multiple parties fighting each other in a thread. Normally the level of insults starts to slowly escalate and suddenly one member gets banned because he/she made a direct insult. That then looks unfair to the bystanders and on the face of it, it might be. But the rules are fairly clear and without them the mods' work would even be harder because then they would have to make decisions/interventions based on a slippery slope and nobody wants that. But don't think for a minute that a troll now might get away with teasing the members of a forum until they call him out personally: Trolling too is banned. But the standards for punishment are higher. Just being a contrarian isn't enough. And it shouldn't be. That said, I do recommend to Toil to tone it down a notch. I like Hamilton and wish him the best on his journey to the 3rd title and I do rate him highly in the F1 Pantheon but at some point it becomes redundant to sing his praises. As it became redundant for other drivers. Once you are a multiple WDC it really doesn't need to be repeated that your talents are above the "mere mortals". Only fools (indirect insult, hence ok ) would for instance question the talents of a 4 times WDC like Vettel.
Wasn't good, no question. At least he admitted it. I'm the first to criticize a WDC for a poor race but I have a problem with people questioning the talent of a multiple WDC
Rules be rules. It's a shame when a good place becomes a cesspool of nonsense, but we make the choice.
Actually the battle with toil is not even on my radar. There are other people who taint the FChat experience for me.
Only to add, the only valued F chat member that doesn't post in here now, (to my knowledge) is SRT Mike... Am interested to know from F1 posters who is missing/or gone AWOL. maybe worthy of a thread.
Totally agree. There are a few others but either I'm glad they moved on or I know that their personal circumstances caused them to leave. As you say: SRT Mike is the biggest loss for us and we don't even know why he left
FYI: handling some reported posts: As these were much earlier in the thread, prior to the debate we had about the expected tone, I'll issue infraction notices via PM rather than bans. All the best, Andrew.
Surprisingly, neither will. For some reason both of them will go winless from the moment they match his number and every time they "win" afterwards, the FIA will disqualify them. Even more of a surprise, all the races will be won by MASSA. It is truly a weird F1 world we live in.......
Lol I read a piece once in the New Yorker about a time traveler who was about to murder his own father before he himself was conceived. Every time he was about to do something the universe would counter that by some super strange coincidence preventing him from doing it
