+1 I get the point, Schumi helped build the car etc but Kimi got hired by Renault because of his supreme speed to just about anyone. As soon as he got passed Grosjean he was 2 seconds a lap quicker!
Is it too harsh? Maybe. I like Kimi and he is a great driver, but he's sort of a loner who hasn't built anything up from nothing, or close to nothing. He's reaping the fruit from others labor. He certainly deserves the podium for himself though considering the terrible times he has been having the past couple races. Now it's Schu's turn. The terrible luck and circumstance has to lay off sometime. Talk about a guy who has built teams though. No one else has like he has.
I feel rather comfortable in predicting we will see Shumi on the podium this season, who would have expected todays podium? I love F1!
Depends on how you look at history: Kimi drove for McLaren from 2002 to 2006: In that period of time the team came 3 times 3rd and once 2nd in the WCC. Also during those years testing was allowed. So are you saying that it was DC and JPM who developed the car alone? Equally when he got the title in 2007, Ferrari hadn't won the title for two years in a row. So one could argue that it was Kimi who brought them back to the title. To say he just arrived and drove is very one sided and realistically can't be true. Granted his record is not the same as MS' who built a winning team twice from the ground up. But that wasn't the question of this poll.
+1 I don't think anyone is his right mind is doubting the effort Schumacher puts in building a car/team. To say Kimi rocks up and reaps the benefits is naive. Kimi is spastically fast. IF it is true that MSC was forced to choose between staying or riding with Kimi, we all know why. The team he had build over 9 seasons and all of a sudden facing the very strong possibility to being beaten by his new team mate would have sucked to say the least. MSC isn't retarded and he fully knows the speed Raikkonen has. in 03, when Kimi finished 2nd to MSC, the difference was only 2 pts. IIRC Kimi had more mechanical retirements than MSC.
Well harsh in the fact he has been out of the sport, he drove very well tried to pass Vettel, it was never going to be a easy feat. And really what more could he do in helping design the car in the short time with limited testing ect not really his fault. I do understand where you are coming from though, but he was my favourite driver of this race, along with P di Resta just hanging on to 6th.
I've gotta beg to differ on that. Fauxtus were all over the place last year - The car sucked and the team didn't seem to "gel" at all either. Kimi & Lettuce come along, the car is entirely new - Hardly reaping any benefit from last years model - And here they are. Seems they've built a good car and Kimi (and Lettuce!) are moving forward nicely. The team seems "happier", and I suspect part of that is the personalities of the jockeys. I'm gonna say Freds the only one who could have got more out of that car today. A big ol' +1 to that! Seems he's pissed off Pirelli though; A little surprising coming from him - He's certainly earned the right to speak up, but maybe he was just a little more frustrated than the others. Cheers, Ian
Id sooner watch Kimi come from the back each week and finish in the top ten then watch someone breakout 30 seconds ahead of the pack on the first lap and walk away...
I reckon Michael need to win his first race to get back his groove. Well, look at what happen to Nico after his first win. A tiger who has been fed, but desperately wanting more!
At the risk of Darth pulling the Necromancer card on me I just had to dust off this thread. Some truly funny posts in here with our hindsight vision we have now. And for another good read: http://www.formula1.com/news/features/2012/11/14026.html
