They are silly for not trying to grab Hulk. I can't believe he doesn't have an opt out clause of his current contract if he's offered a seat. He did a solid job at Williams and could be a good pair to Petrov.

Of those three Nick is the no brainier but I also think he's past his sell by date as well.

As for months from back in the seat, the reports seems to put that on long odds but time will tell.

There's no way Mallya will let Hulkenberg go. He's pretty proud to have grabbed him (on a long-term contract). There's a decent chance Sutil will try to leave again next season, and who knows how well Di Resta will do.

It's nice to see that my idea has some followers.

I really don't see Massa at Ferrari for much longer, so he might as well start looking around for a new home. Renault would be a good fit for him and for the team.

Massa won't look anywhere else until Ferrari doesn't renew his contract.

Come on he is paid a fortune and won't get even near that kind of paycheck on another team.

And for renault, The guy that will take Robert's place knows that he will have to go away if Rob miraculously recovers.

Heidfeld - because he so convincingly destroyed Kobayashi? Safe choice, but pretty uninspired. No Kubica.

Well, he certainly has more experience and podiums than Kobayashi.

That's not exactly saying much though is it?! Let's face it - all 3 names that Renault has mentioned are, at best, midfielders.

Then again, it's not like the field is full of experienced champions available.

    They didn't have many choices.

Looks confirmed to test at least - Renault announced that Petrov will drive the first 2 days at Jerez this week, then the next two days will be for Senna driving and evaluating Heidfeld.

If Heidfeld does OK (ie significantly better than Senna), then I would expect Renault to confirm him to race until Kubica returns.

I have to disagree. Quick Nick can be a contender with a good machine. No doubt.

Of the 3 shortlisted candidates, he may well be the class of that field. We will know soon enough...

I mean really, the guy fought the fight. Mark Webber was never a winner (took 131 attempts) until he got a good Red Bull, and I whole-heartedly believe Nick is a better driver than Webber.

Everyone needs to recall Nick's 2007 season where he was better than Kubica and had an awesome pass on Alonso (Bahrain). He is a great #1 driver and I hope it works out for him.

They should just run all three. Senna gets a three races, Heidfeld three and Liuzzi three. Best gets the rest of the year. It's not like Renault was in danger of winning the title with that car anyway, especially now without Kubica. I don't believe Senna got a proper shot with that ****box HRT, Heidfeld is a never was, and so is Liuzzi. Might as well make it entertaining.

    Nope.

He is way past his zenith.

And I like Quick Nick a lot, but his best years are behind him. In his last season with Kubica in the Sauber the results were somewhat equal, but that was because the team no longer supported Kubica and hence Nick looked a lot better than what he really was.

Given the choices of Senna, Liuzzi and Heidfeld, there is no winner. They're all useless at this point.

I can't say whether the Hulk will ever be great, but at least there is a chance. With the 3 choices they have right now, we know they have no speed.

If not Nick, Renault has to go with the Hulk if they want a cat in hells chance.
