The profit margin on used Ferraris is pretty substantial.

Dealers are cheap bastards when it comes appraising used Ferraris, but then they'll turn around and ask 10-15,000 dollars above the wholesale price--the price they'd pay.

I have decent to good knowledge of the market for 348s, and the guys I've talked to in the business wouldn't pay more than 40-45K even for a clean 348 with under 20,000 miles.

Dealers will try to sell the car you've described for high 50s/low 60s though.

What should you pay? Low 50s. And if the car hasn't has its engine out service within the last 3 years, pay no more than 50.

I agree low 40s if the car has no 30K service - and you can find good ones for that price.

Low 50s for one that has the 30K service and is in good condition.

You guys are dead on the money as far as current prices, I sold my mint 91' with the 30K done and 22K miles for $52K while a dealer wanted to ofer $40K for it. I think there are even better prices out there, and I would not pay over $50-55K for a mint example unless it has a lot of extras with it, like luggage, wheels, etc.

Hey guys, you replied here, so I thought I'd see if you had any opinions on late model 348 spiders with less than 10K miles and a recent service. Less than 20K miles? I'm seeing individuals asking mid to high 60's and dealers mid to high 70's. Hate to over-pay. I posted separately on the 348 Spider question, but got no replies.

Asking prices for 348 Spiders are outrageous. Just outrageous.

I'll first tell you what dealers will offer for the car in on trade. For an example under 10,000 miles, wholesale value is low 60s tops. For an example with more than 10,000 miles but under 20,000, wholesale value is probably mid to high 50s. It depends on the particular car.

There are many threads on this board revealing the dangers of garage queens. A 348 Spider with a ridiculously low amount of mileage is a worse car than a car that was driven.

I wouldn't pay more than low 60s for a 348 Spider. Well, maybe mid-60s--but that's for a superb car with no paint work (very rare for Ferraris), not too many rockchips, and a very recent engine-out service, good tires, etc.

Again, remember that dealers are always asking way over the true selling market price. You should be able to bring them down between 4 and 7 thousand dollars from their asking price. I'm talking 348s here.
