Don't know anything about the Silver Shadow .30k would be a lot of money for one from an auction ..Carl would know .. The Silver Cloud lll is a deceased estate of a friend he bought it about 2 years ago . it was up till then a one family owner car. For 65k but you could spend 100k on it real easy ,not including mechanics .These cars alone in side to restore with the correct materials are a 55 to 65k job .
These are a delightful Bentley to drive a 4.5 litre in manual gearbox mode R-Type ..similar running gear to a Continental R. but more weight. I doubt any Rolls-Royce mechanical shop would do work for A/C. There a very close group ,word gets around real quick.
Unless that Shadow is turnkey, I would be very careful buying at auction. Seems like all the money in the world (heading towards mid 30s with commission). If you can't test it, not to mention the undesirable colour scheme I would avoid it. The odometers also tick over at 99,999 miles so you need to have records from day one to substantiate the mileage. The Cloud III sounds lovely if its been maintained. They are simpler in the rear suspension (Live axle, no self levelling), the brakes are standard hydraulic drums unlike the Shadow with the self levelling and Citroen licensed high pressure pumps and accumulators. But the bodywork on the Clouds are a nightmare if neglected. Like anything, buy the best lowest mileage spectacular no stories car you can find. There are no bargains at this end of the market.

That's not a very nice comment towards my pride & JOY.. For me a car in strong working mechanical order and used even if its a rough old fighter in the cosmetics ....is FAR more interesting then some over-restored Queen as we so often see these days! The owner of that S Series Bentley would get more thumbs up and smiles from the general public then some modern Bentley ? * Today I drove my "old fighter " back from her annual service ,from the otherside of town to home , I had smiles ,thumbs up and pleasant comments . Refreshing to see other motorists acknowledge the old girl , in todays aggressive motoring world. Perhaps I'm a romantic , but a romantic that pays his motorcar service/repair bills!
The owner perhaps would be an older lawyer working for an old firm or professor at a Uni lecturing in some building about some long ago language ?
