Lol, you're lucky you don't have kids mate.

At my kids primary school here, at their weekly parade every Friday afternoon at 2pm, the school leaders (don't call them school captains anymore) stand up on parade and recite some crap about "we are grateful to come to school on traditional land owned by the custodians of Kalkadoon tribe" I don't remember it exactly as I zone out when I hear it and all the kids are made to recite that crap along with the school leaders. Goes for around 5-10 seconds the complete speech before parade kicks off.

Even worse, after that they play a custom Australian national anthem through the PA system with a didgeridoo in the background and someone banging sticks and **** while the kids sing the Australian national anthem to that music.

At the MCG "welcome to country " is done at every game, I just get up beforehand and go to the bar or the toilet or stand in a hallway and look at the period photos on the walls.

Car clubs are now doing Welcome to country and acknowledgment gig .

So you’d prefer we go back to when I was a kid and we had to sing God Save the Queen and kowtow to Britain?

I’d prefer we did neither, although out of the two I’d prefer that compared to endlessly being welcomed to my own country as if I’m some kind of visitor.

We had it right when I was at school.
Raise the Australian flag at the start of the week (and it was the ONLY flag flown and recognised) and sing the national anthem.

Definitely too young, but I remember the stories my Dad used to tell me when he first came to Australia in 1953.

"Stupid wog" and all other derogatory words hurt back in those days he said, but I am grateful my Dad and all the other immigrants around Australia stuck around to make better lives for themselves and their families back home.

Here we are with an historical method of fixing,to a certain extent, the 'issues' pertaining to all the Murri problems.
We had a bloke up here,Geoff Guest, who had a remote property near Petford who worked wonders with these folk.
The Qld gov't of the day trumped up some bullshoit reasons why he wasn't allowed to continue and the area, particularly Mareeba, has the same problems as A Springs and the Isa.

    +1

That's how it was when I was a kid in primary school and in high school through the late 80s and 90s.

That's how it was when my little ones were in Grade 1 back in 2017, but in Grade 2 they started hoisting the Aboriginal flag also and started that little speech before parade along with that obnoxious national anthem.

I don't need to hear every week how grateful I should be to have my Australian born children go to school on traditional Aboriginal land owned by the Kalkadoon tribe.

Aboriginals should be grateful that I go to work 100hrs a week so they can sit around and do **** all and get paid and receive all the benefits they get lol.

There is a simple fix to all this.

Punish the parents by taking away their weekly payments if their children are caught stealing, underage drinking, stealing cars, break and enters etc etc and they will soon bash their children to bring them back into line and it will stop.

4 underage Aboriginal kids broke into my Brother in-law Tim's house early January. Around 12 am, they climbed the pole to get onto the back patio off the back of the two storey house. Tim's 70 year old Mother was visiting from New Zealand, she was on the couch watching tv at the time. They made noise from the floorboards creaking which eventually got her attention, she screamed which woke Tim and Sister in-law up, but it was too late.

They took 2x handbags, 4x sets of car keys and a bottle of booze that was sitting on the kitchen bench. They left the same way they came in, lightning fast and they took around $400 in cash in those handbags, but the worst part is all the cards and drivers licence stuff as you can imagine.

They called me at 1am waking me up to tell me what happened and more importantly to ask me what to do with their cars to prevent them coming back to steal them that night, I went around there and removed the start relays for them.

The very next night they came back trying to steal those cars. A 2015 Mazda BT50 family hack, 2x VY SS Commodore sedans and a 2000 Lancer sedan he drives to work and back. They didn't get any of them.

Around 4 days later on our days off, Tim and his Mother were driving back home when his Mother pointed out one of the kids that broke in. She told Tim she was 100% sure it was him, wearing the same clothes and all. So they followed him back to this house ( just near my house) and Tim followed him into the yard and knocked on the door. The young fellas Uncle answered the door and Tim proceeded to tell him what happened a few days prior and the old Uncle called the young fella over and questioned him about it and he told him the truth. Uncle then proceeded to smack this kid around the ears a few times while telling him he's bringing trouble to his house and for him to hand the keys back.

The little fella didn't hand them over because they don't keep the keys in their pockets, because when the Cops pull them up and search their pockets for stuff, they will get caught. So they stash these keys in random places/garden beds/other people's yards etc and get them randomly to go back and try steal those cars days or weeks later.

This young fella copped a good beating from Uncle and was crying, but never gave up the keys or his mates. My Brother in-law then called the Cops while he was there and they showed up and did a quick search of the property and found nothing of course.

Till this day, nothing happened to that kid or his mates and they never got the keys back.

They have a spare key for the BT50, but no spare keys for the other cars and they don't have full comprehensive insurance on any of those cars either like the schmucks they are.

They got a quote for $7500 to program all new keys, barrels, BCMs/PIMs etc etc from the dealerships. Crazy money.

I helped the brother in-law re-program new keys for this SS commodores, can keep the same door lock and ignition barrels. They can use key to get in with the door, but they can't start the car and central locking won't work either, so they may as well toss those Commodore keys in the bin because the engine won't start. He doesn't keep anything in those cars that is valuable to steal, even if they did unlock the doors with the old keys.

The Lancer key is going to cost $1500 to sort out, I can't do it, so it's not worth it and he is looking at buying another cheap work car now.

The BT50 still has a spare key, they keep removing the start relay out of it every day when she parks it at work and at home because they can't afford the $3000+ for Mazda to replace the BCM and program new keys at the moment. I can't help with that one either.

I told them I can wire in a micro switch under the dash they can flick on or off to kill ignition power so they can't steal it, but they said it's all good and keep removing that start relay.

They will eventually stretch and **** that bonnet cable and the relay base and will expect me to fix it for them lol.

Anyway, take money away from the parents and I am sure these kids will pull up real quick!

Yep, I am great friends with a lot of Aboriginals. Some work, some don't. You make lifelong friends when you go to school with them and my kids have some young Aboriginal girl friends that sleep over every now and then.

I don't care that the Government wastes all that time and money on the bludgers, white folk or Aboriginal folk, I have better things to worry about in life as I can't control Government spending, even though it's disgusting as to how much money they waste on the bludgers AND everything else.

What I don't like is these ****s trying to cram this welcome to country/custodians of the land BS down our necks, it's all starting to get a bit annoying.

I was thinking about this as I was walking on the beach this morning - why am I so hung up on defending those who get picked on? I think a lot of it comes back to growing up in Paddington (Bris) when it was a poor, mostly migrant area. I started pushing back when I went to high school (at The Gap - basically what I call ‘white bread suburbia’) where some of the kids there were slagging ‘wogs’ and ‘stinky food’ and I realised they were just narrow minded and missing out while I was getting to learn about lots of stuff about outside of our little patch, and stuff my face with fabulous Mediterranean food!
I also think the immigrants like your parents are the ones who truly built this country, NOT the British landlords...
I’ve just watched an SBS series on America and the Holocaust - anyone who doesn’t believe there are intrinsically evil people in the world should be forced to watch it.

And at the end of the day, demographically, there are way more white bludgers than indigenous... and it’s pretty much only the “townies” anyway.
I don’t get the hangups about ‘welcome to country’ openings at meetings - I just feel really pleased that I do live in paradise on GubbiGubbi land. I see it as MY home, as well as theirs. We’re ALL Australians, now... just some have Aboriginal heritage and some have Greek or British or whatever. Why should Aboriginal people give up their traditional customs any more than immigrants should forget their heritage?
In fact, I was cheesed off recently when I had state on a form what traditional land a property was on and then answer a question about how I established that fact: my answer to the second was - local knowledge!
