Well I finally did the stupid thing tonight.

Last night I went to pick up a pizza, It was not going to fit well in the car, so I decided to throw it in the trunk (top up on the car). I needed to move a small gym bag, so I moved it to the area where you aren't supposed to store anything when you put the top down.

Tonight I pick up food again, but it is a nice night so I go to put down the top. Hmm, seems to be taking a bit longer to lower than usual. Suddenly I get a fault, and I realize I never removed the gym bag from last night. So I try "roof up." Uh, no. Roof not moving. I try opening the trunk, it opens about an inch.

Get home and see roof on passenger side of car is basically closed, but on other side (where gym bag is), line from back seat to rear of trunk open about and inch all the way down.

Cant open or close roof. Car keeps beeping at me to finish roof operation. Then tells me I have a "Roof Fault."

I even opened the trunk about an inch and got a "hanger type" thing in there to try to pull out bag. No luck.

Unless someone has a VERY good idea for me, I think I am off to F-dealer tomorrow. Assume I can drive car as it is, but I guess I will ask them first.

No idea if this will help you or not - I had a completely different roof issue, but was getting the same message. Someone told me to try resetting the roof with the fob, which I didn't even know you could do. Here is my old post:

Here's what I did: I tried holding the trunk open and door open buttons on the fob for 5s, and nothing happened. Then I started fiddling. I then held the door open button on the fob for 5s and that was the magic. After 5s, it appears the computer reset the locking mechanisms. The fob would then open the trunk. I confirmed nothing was in the way, closed the trunk, and tried to raise the top normally and it worked fine (with the windows going down first, as they should).

Maybe you'll get luck with this!

One other thought - if you can get your trunk open an inch, you can probably shine a light in and see the releases for the fold-down back seats. If you can get those released and open into the back seat, maybe you can get to the gym bag from inside the cabin.

I'm at work but if IIRC look in the manual and there's a manual way of removing the trunk. The release is from the back seat area on both sides. I recall it being a two person operation though to remove the trunk but you may want to try this before taking the Cali to the dealership.

Do you have the fold down seat back? Try dropping that and seeing if you can fish out your bag, ideally item by item, from inside the car.
