Do we have to 'sign up' for passenger seats on Monday, or is it a case of just asking nicely on the day?

Wondered about a helmet, but don't have one anyway so it's academic.

Only time I've been around the GP circuit is in a pre-war Aston on a parade lap, so that was hardly high speed :).

Never been in a Ferrari (except Steve P 360 F1 - sat in it and played with the paddles!! :D) never mind a race track.

Think there'll be helmets there on the day anyway. We can always get in the megane and crawl round :D

I've been in a 308 on an airfield somewhere (sorry, female sense of direction kicking in!), just to have a random play...is this ok?!

No problem, Easytrack will insist that you are given "track orientration" by their instructor ie first time out. They some times ask new to track drivers to "follow the leader" and gradually build speed ensuring you stick to the racing line.

    All good stuff,

    On the basis of this and other similar comments, thought I would post this -direct from organisers website;

    http://www.easytrack.co.uk/events/faq.asp?page_id=7&id=ALL

Lots of other info there as well guys.

    Events - frequently asked questions

    Is my car suitable?
Most likely yes. Almost all vehicles are welcome on trackdays just so long as they meet safety and noise emission requirements. As a general rule, you car needs be to MOT standard. Seatbelts, brakes, tyres, indicators and lights all need to have to work. Some circuits do have special rules, and one of the most common is that special track prepared cars that do not have wings over their wheels will not be allowed. Each event detail box details any restrictions.

What should I bring to an event?
The most important thing is the right attitude. You need to be aware that motoring events of this nature can be dangerous. A set of simple rules designed to keep you and others safe. If you come prepared to follow those rules, you will be fine, break them and you'll be going home early. Other than that, a suitable & safe (see later) car, correct clothing covering both arms and legs, a helmet and the all important full driving licence.

    What safety clothing is required?
Helmets are compulsory for all people intending to drive or passenger. We can hire or sell you helmets (option selectable as you follow the online booking process) that will be waiting for you at the event. We do recommend specialised race overalls too, but understand these are not possible for all. It is compulsory to have both your arms and legs fully covered by your clothing. You will be refused access to the track unless these rules are met.

How do I prepare my car and myself for a trackday?
Simply click on the car preperation guide in the menu to the left for some suggestions.

How are cars tested for noise and will my car pass the noise tests?
The vast majority of tracks in the UK have noise limits imposed on them by their local councils. These limits vary from track to track and some tracks have several different limits. The limit for each event is displayed in the event detail boxes. They are generally measured in the same way. A noise meter is placed at a 45 degree angle to the exhaust outlet and 50cm away. The car is then held at 3/4 of its maximum rev limit and the highest reading recorded is the cars recorded noise output for the day. If a car is over the official limit, the car will not be allowed onto the circuit. easyTRACK will have no part in this process or a say in its outcome. If you do not know what the noise output of your car is, as a general guide most standard road cars will record lower than 98db (the strictest enforced at any of the venues used by us), indeed many sports exhaust systems will also, but may reach 102-3db. However, if in doubt get the car tested prior to booking an event, you are welcome to visit any event of ours for a test. If your car is too loud for a particular track, fear not, we can hire you extra silencing equipment (subject to availability).

In the event detail boxes it lists OPEN LAPPING or SESSIONED EVENT. What is the difference?
Where SESSIONED event is displayed, this means the day will be structured into usually 3 separate groups of cars which take it in turns to go out on track for 20 minutes at a time. Depending on the track and weather conditions sometimes there may be 2 groups or 4 groups. Each car and all its drivers will be restricted to their group for the duration of the day (except when under instruction where the car will be allowed on track in additional sessions). There is no extra charge for additional drivers on these days, over the normal passenger fee. Drivers are allocated the group depending on their experience level and type of car. The aim is to keep fast and slower cars separate and have an all-day beginners group. If you are a beginner, or think your overall speed and abilities is lower than some you should stick to this format of day.

Where OPEN PITLANE event is displayed, this means the cars and drivers are free to go out onto the track when they choose (providing the circuit limit has not been reached, Goodwood maximum is the lowest with 5 cars for 105db days and 10 cars for 98db days). This is less common, as only certain circuits have the facilities for this. On these days the first hour will be in SESSION format to help stagger the attendees. Since driving is unrestricted, there is a charge for additional drivers on day running OPEN PITLANE. These days appeal more to advanced drivers, and the overall speed on the circuit tends to be higher. We therefore ask that newer drivers choose sessioned events instead. With the exception of Goodwood and Brands Hatch Indy or airfield and European events, beginners should not choose an open-pitlane event as sharing the circuit with advanced drivers can be intimidating.

I've never driven on a track before and I would like some pointers, will you have instructors there?
Experienced track users who are also ARDS registered instructors oversee all easyTRACK events. These are available to give you some guidance into track driving. They won't be teaching you to be a racing driver, but they will be sharing the benefits of their racing and trackday experience. It is highly recommended that you take this option, if you are at all unfamiliar with track driving or new to a particular track.

I am concerned I will be `too slow`, and more experienced drivers will be inconsiderate.
Any driver not being "considerate" to others will be removed from the track by the attending marshals immediately. They are the ones in the wrong. Speed is not necessarily an issue. Of course an overly slow driver can cause a nuisance, which is why we select sessions partly on the grounds of people`s prior experience, type of vehicle and where they will feel most comfortable. If sessions are clearly not working out: we change them. We strive to provide a comfortable situation for newcomers and old-hats alike.

What happens if I have an accident?
Although a trackday is generally a very safe time and place to try the limits of driving, in reality accidents can and sadly do happen. It would be dishonest for us to say otherwise. We endeavour to do absolutely everything possible to ensure the safety of drivers, passengers and spectators alike. Part of this is staffing events above and beyond ATDO rules and only using fully qualified and professionally experienced people. Should the unfortunate happen, rest assured that the attending marshals and paramedics will be fully able to cope and that full and proper procedures would be followed.

If I damage my car in an accident, who will pay?
Although trackday accidents are rare, if you decide to take your car on to a track, you must be aware that are accepting the risk. By becoming a member of easytrack you have already agreed to this. You will also be required to sign a further declaration at each event. This is usual on any trackday. The circuit, easytrack or any other person or company cannot be held responsible, even if an accident is not your fault. It is becoming increasingly unlikely that your road going policy is going to cover you for a trackday so make sure you check with your insurance company first. Make sure you mention that these events are non-competitive and no racing or timing is allowed. Many companies will cover you, for a small additional premium.

I am concerned I will be `too fast`, and less experienced drivers will be annoying.
We make every effort to make all drivers feel relaxed and make sure they are alert and enjoy the day. We run NON-competitive track days. Anyone caught getting aggressive / competitive / dangerous behind the wheel will be removed from the circuit. Having said that we can usually segregate at least 1 session per event to more experienced drivers who may be considerably quicker than the newcomers.

Can I run on slick tyres?
Yes, but they must be in good condition and you may not use them if the track isn't 100% dry.
